Theologist, philosopher, musician and doctor, his engagement is shown by the foundation of the hospital which have his name in Lambaréné (Gabon). Thanks to his way of thinking and actions, ahead of his time, he received the Nobel Prize of Peace in 1952. Albert Schweitzer is a personality of the Rhineland, carrying the humanist values so proper to our region. His work is perpetuated, of course in Lambaréné but in Alsace as well, where he was deeply steeped in the collective memory. This publication aim at promoting and making these different places better known where Albert Schweitzer lived and his work is carrying on. The family moves into a presbytery in Gunsbach in July. • 1896: As of 30 years old, he decided to dedicate his time to humanitarian work. • 1899-1900: PhD in philosophy and theology, vicar at the SaintNicolas church in Strasbourg. • October 1, 1903: Appointed director of the Saint-Thomas protestant seminary of Strasbourg. • 1905-1913: Studies and Doctorate at the University of Strasbourg. • March 21, 1913: Left Gunsbach for Lambaréné in Gabon, with his wife Hélène Bresslau. • 1915: He became the founder of the ethic "Reverence for Life". • September 1917: The German couple was forced to return to France to be confined as civilian internees until the end of the First World War. • 1924-1965: Thanks to his organ concerts and his conferences in Europe, his writing of around thirty books, numerous prizes and international donations, and without forgetting the help of hundreds of contributors, Albert Schweitzer never ceased enlarging the Lambaréné village hospital. • November 4, 1954: He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 in Oslo. • 1957-1958: Using Radio Oslo, he pleaded to Humanity for the abolition of the atomic bomb and nuclear testing. • September 4, 1965: Albert Schweitzer passed away in Lambaréné where he was buried next to his wife.
