Culture and relaxation are to be met during this stroll through the town’s natural sites. This
visit will give you the opportunity to discover the Canal du Midi, the Garonne river and
the main emblematic monuments of Toulouse.
 The Canal du Midi, the oldest canal still in use in Europe,
was created by Pierre-Paul Riquet in the 17th century to link the
Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Inaugurated in 1681, it
used to facilitate the transport of goods especially cereals.
Classified in 1996 as World Heritage of Humanity by
UNESCO to demonstrate the greatness of the work and honor all
structures made along its 240 km.
 Toulouse, in love with its Garonne river has opted to protect the docks and surrounding
area. The riverfront in walk became a place of entertainment for festivals such as Rio Loco in
June each year or are transformed into giant beach each summer.
 The Capitole, now the home of the Town Hall and the Théâtre National du Capitole, this
building is remarkable for its façade with its eight pink marble columns, its Cour Henri IV
and the "Salle des Illustres" (inspired by the Galleria Farnese in Rome), where the gilt
mouldings vie with the painted cartouches. Also on your tour are the Jean-Paul Laurens,
Henri Martin and Paul Gervais Rooms.

Saint-Sernin Basilica, a splendid Roman church. Listed by UNESCO as an important
stop on the Saint-Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimage. This beautiful building dates back to
the 11th and 12th centuries.

The barge "House of the Violet" dropped its anchor on the Canal du Midi classified world
inheritance by UNESCO. Since July 2000, Helene Vié and her
team welcome you on board a traditional barge built in 1930 to
make you discover the authentic world of the Violet. It is an
original stopover in the respect of the regional tradition. Enjoy
a tea time on board during summer time and see green houses
during winter time.

Arrival at Valence d’Agen from Toulouse by the freeway, and go to Auvillar.
10.00 am : Meeting at the Tourist Office of Auvillar for a guided visit of
the city.
The charm of Auvillar lies in the harmonious marriage of white limestone, pink
brick and gray pebbles of the Garonne. The city labelised "Most Beautiful
Villages in France" is a major step on the path of Saint Jacques de Compostela
or GR65 from Le Puy-en Velay.

2.00 pm : Meeting at the « Halte Nautique » of Valence d’Agen to go a cycling trip along
the Canal du Midi in direction of Moissac. The Canal des Deux Mers à Vélo is an exceptional
cycle route linking the two seas of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. You can pedal along
for almost 800km beside the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi, the latter a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO, to explore unforgettable landscapes and sites.

Moissac, stone, water and fruit ... With its cloister World Heritage, Moissac is one of the
prides of the Tarn-et-Garonne. 30 km west of Montauban, this Mecca of Romanesque art in
France is also a major fruit center, bathed in the Tarn and
the
Canal
des
Deux
Mers.
It was and still is a major step on the road to St Jacques de
Compostela.
With a mesmerizing serenity, cloister dedicated to the Year
1100 deploys its four galleries decorated with 76 beautiful
capitals, historiated or decorative. There is no other
example in the world of the cloister of the time that has
survived
well
in
its
entirety.
The tympanum of the abbey accounts also among the
masterpieces
of
Romanesque
sculpture.
With a pretty marina, Moissac is the starting point for walks along the Canal des Deux Mers,
punctuated with locks and structures (see the impressive aqueduct 1847).
