Jean Mc Graw, une Américaine de soixante ans a pris un sérieux
virage dans la vie : après avoir été nourrice pendant treize ans, elle a
créé sa propre entreprise au pays de la haute technologie, la Silicon
Vallée, où elle confectionne des sablés.
Mme Graw vend ses produits sur internet et par correspondance. Elle
a aussi signé un contrat avec une chaîne de magasins d’hotels de
Californie. Elle a de grands espoirs de développement.
Elle a basé sa réussite sur une vieille recette de famille qu’elle a
adaptée aux goûts d’aujourd’hui. Elle a aussi limité ses coûts au
maximum : elle travaille avec son fils, sans personnel dans une cuisine
qu’elle loue à l’heure. En plus de la fabrication des gâteaux, ils
s’occupent de l’emballage et de la distribution de leurs produits.
Alors que certains incitaient Jean Mc Graw à sauter le pas, sa réussite
a surpris sa propre famille qui n’y croyait pas. Aujourd’hui elle
réinvestit ses bénéfices dans l’entreprise, rêve d’expansion, de vendre
son entreprise à une société plus importante, pour, peut-être en créer
une autre.
A sa manière, Jean est l’incarnation du rêve américain.

I am really in two minds about it.
On the one hand I would be glad to start my own company. It must be
thrilling to be your own boss, to set your own objectives, and feel you
are working for yourself. I would be ready to work hard to succeed.
On the other hand I am aware that this is an immense responsibility
which can be tackled only by an experienced and mature person. It is
certainly not for a school leaver.
All things considered, I’d rather start my working life as an employee
to have a chance to learn on the job and take advantage of older
people's advice before founding my own company if the opportunity
arises some day

that it does not have to downsize. People feel that their jobs are safe
and that they will not be laid off at any time.
The Managing Director's attitude is most important: he should be
close to everyone and take their views into account.
The employees should have a reasonable workload and decent
working conditions. They should make a good living and feel like
coming to work every day.
Men and women should have equal opportunities.
In the ideal company the atmosphere would be friendly and nobody
would be stressed.
