And the future arrived
Dear Reader.
It was the 3rd of July of 1985 when Doc and Marty McFly first took our imaginations "Back to the Future". The future that the Delorean
explored was... 2015! Now we’ve reached the future, so let’s see if the future is like what Back to the Future predicted.
To start with, and to our regret, two of coolest gadgets were a bit of an over-optimistic prediction. First there were the flying cars.
American company Terrafugia is indeed putting the final touches to a prototype which they are hoping will see the light of day in a
couple of years; though we don’t know if air traffic control plans have been drafted yet. Secondly, who didn’t dream of riding the
hoverboard?! Well, there’s good news: another American company, Arx Pax, will release the very first models in October this year.
They do hover, one inch (!); so perhaps not as sleek as Marty’s, but definitely a good start. Have $10,000 ready if you fancy one.
Next were the self-tying shoes. Nike gave it a try in 2011 with the Nike Mag Air: same design as Marty’s, but elastic bands instead of
power laces; not really the same thing, is it? And fast food is still cooked slowly and not in 6 seconds like the de-hydrated pizza the
McFlys had for dinner.
On the plus side, fashion trends took us far away from the double tie and Spielberg didn’t actually release 19 "Jaws" films, but only 4.
In terms of Automation we do have robot technology (not yet at petrol stations) but we still do not have "Mr. Fusion", the Home Energy
reactor to dispose of the garbage while making cheap clean energy out of it.
Inventors out there: you still have 5 months to catch up; as for us, this month you can achieve present day energy advantages
(though not through the magic of nuclear fusion) that will cool off your costs this summer: have a look at the Series HRSE basic type
thermo-chiller.

Et le futur devient réalité

Le 3 juillet 1985, Doc et Marty McFly ont pour la première fois fait naître dans notre imagination « Retour vers le futur ». Le futur
exploré par la Delorean était... 2015 ! Maintenant que nous sommes dans le futur, voyons notre futur ressemble à celui prédit par
Retour vers le futur.
Pour commencer, et à notre grand regret, deux des gadgets les plus cool étaient une prédiction quelque peu optimiste. D'abord les
voitures volantes. L'entreprise américaine Terrafugia est en fait en train d'apporter la touche finale à un prototype qu'ils espèrent voir
le jour dans quelques années ; même si nous ne savons pas si des plans de trafic aérien ont été encore préparés. Et puis, qui n'a
jamais rêvé de faire du skateboard volant ? Et bien, voilà une bonne nouvelle : une autre entreprise américaine, Arx Pax prévoit de
lancer ses premiers modèles en octobre cette année. Ils volent bien, un pouce (!) ; de façon peut-être pas aussi fluide que celui de
Marty, mais définitivement un bon commencement. Préparez 10 000 dollars si vous en rêvez d'un.
Il y avait aussi les chaussures se laçant toutes seules. Nike a fait une tentative en 2011 avec la Nike Mag Air : le même design que les
chaussures de Marty mais avec des bandes élastiques au lieu de lacets puissants ; pas vraiment la même chose, n'est-ce pas ? Et la
restauration rapide est encore lente et pas en 6 secondes comme la pizza déshydratée que McFlys a eu au dîner.
Par contre, du côté positif, les tendances de la mode ne nous ont pas amené vers la cravate double et Spielberg n'a pas sorti 19
« Dents de la mer », mais seulement 4.
En termes d'automatisation, nous avons effectivement une technologie robotique (pas encore aux stations essence) mais nous
n'avons pas encore « Mr. Fusion », le réacteur énergétique de maison pour disposer des déchets en créant de l'énergie bon marché.
Inventeurs : vous avez encore 5 mois pour rattraper le retard ; car pour nous, ce mois-ci, vous pouvez atteindre dès à présent des
