(University of Fribourg) about the representation of snakes in the young girls’ tombs
of Thasos and about the continuities and interruptions in the use of space for burials in
Late Antiquity in Northern Greece.

2005-2012 :
Common direction with F. Poplin (Museum National d Histoire Naturelle, Paris) of
the Research Project: Archaeologic and archaeozoologic study of the material found
in the « house » with the hellenistic mosaic in Maroneia, Thrace, excavated in 1980, after authorization of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the 19th Ephorate of
Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. In progress to prove links of the
archaeozoological material with cult and public practices in the area of the building.

Participation in the research group for the cemetery of babies in Astypalaia in
association with V.Dasen, the University of Fribourg and the excavator, M. MichalakiKollia.
21.4.2011/ Φ59/53545/568 Research’ Projects Authorization granted from the Greek Ministry of
Culture to I.-D. Papaikonomou and S. Huysecom-Haxhi (CNRS, HALMA-IPEL) for
studying and publishing of the clay figurines coming from the children’ tombs of
Thasos. A first part is already published in our article HUYSECOM,
PAPAIKONOMOU, PAPADOPOULOS 2012 (see publications). The whole study in
progress will be presented in a book in the next two years.
2002- 2013
Authorization and collaboration with K. Kallintzi (19th Ephorate of Prehistoric and
Classical Antiquities, responsible of Abdera) and D. Malamidou (IH Ephorate of
Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Kavala) to study and publish their own burial
excavation material coming from Abdera and the East cemetery of Amphipolis
respectively. Authorisation and collaboration with Ch. Koukouli-Chrysanthaki, Ch.
Koukouli, M. Sgourou†, S. Papadopoulos and A. Agelarakis to study the children
tombs material of Limenas in ancient Thasos.
