BIOGRAPHY
During 2015/2016's season, tenor Emiliano Gonzalez Toro participates to Cavalli's Xerse
production under the baton of Emmanuelle Haïm (Lille, Caen and Vienna). In Bruges, he is with
Capella Mediterranea for a Monteverdi's Madrigaux program, as well as at the Philharmonie de
Paris and the Teater and der Wien, for Armide, with Les Talens lyriques. With La Cetra (Andrea
Marcon), he gives Catone in Utica by Vivaldi in Bâle and Amsterdam, and with the Gulbenkian
orchestra (Michel Corboz) he sings the St Jean Passion in Lisboa. He is also, with Rolando
Villazon, in an Europ tour of Il Re Pastore, under the baton of William Christie.
Born in Geneva from chilean parents, Emiliano Gonzalez Toro is surrounded by latin-american
culture. Early, he enters Geneva's Conservatoire populaire « Les PUERI », with which he makes
his debut on the Grand Téâtre stage. After he studied oboe in Geneva and Lausanne (he
graduates with a 1st prize, congratulated by the jury), he devoted himself to singing, studying frst
with Marga Liskutin in Geneva, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson in London, then with Ruben Amoretti
in Neuchâtel. He also improved thanks to Christiane Stutzmann's advice in Nancy (France).
He made his debut in pieces like Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Masses, Haendel's Te Messiah,
Monteverdi's Vêpres or Bach's Mass in B , Christmas oratorio and Passions, conducted by Michel
Corboz among Lausanne's vocal ensemble. He was therefore invited by several festivals as La
Chaise-Dieu, Noirlac, Beaune, Ambronay, les Folles Journées de Nantes (France), Utrecht
(Netherlands), Granada (Spain), et Lisboa (Portugal).
His last seasons on stage were remarkables, especially in the title role of Platée with Les Talens
Lyriques at the Opéra national du Rhin (Strasburg), Purcell's King Arthur (Massy Opera with Le
Concert Spirituel), Linfea in Cavalli's Calisto at Münich's Bayerische Staatsoper, Lalla Roukh in
Washington and New York with the Lafayette Opera company, L'Incoronazione di Poppea in
Oslo, Lille and Dijon (2011-2012) in which he sang Arnalta, as well as the title-roles in Dardanus
and Phaëton. He Sang also in La Fille de Mme Angot (Pomponnet) and La Périchole (Piquillo) in
Lausanne, Ofenbach's La Princesse de Trébizonde in Saint Etienne, and the part of Aquilio, in
Farnace that led him not only in France (Paris Téâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Opéra
national du Rhin) but also in Amsterdam, Oldenburg and Lausanne. He found back Iro in
Cavalli's Elena at the Festival de Sablé and at the Grand Téâtre d'Angers as well as in a
production by Aix-en-Provence under the baton of Leonardo Garcia Alarcon. At the Opéra
Comique de Paris and at Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisboa he is Le Comte de Comminges, in Le
Pré-aux-Clercs by Hérold. At the Lille Opera, under the baton of Emmanuelle Haïm, he is the
Priest in Idomeneo.

He regularly performs all around the world : United States (he sang the title-role of Gretry's Le
Magnifque in Washington and New York), Germany and Austria (the parts of Melindo,
Ancrocco, Ergauro in Paride in Potsdam and Innsbruck ; Johannes Passion by Bach in Francfort),
Poland (Bach's Mass in B or Haendel's Alcina with Les Musiciens du Louvre in Cracovie) Greece
(Idomeneo's High Priest with Le Cercle de l'Harmonie) or Japan (he starred in Le Malade
Imaginaire) and, fnally, at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden in Germany he sings Gaston in La
Traviata.
His career led him to work with conductors such as William Christie, John Duxbury, Laurent
Gay, Laurent Gendre, Stephan Macleod, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Christina Pluhar, René Jacobs,
Stefano Molardi, Jan Willem de Vriend, Giovanni Antonini, Luca Pianca, Alessandro de Marchi,
Emmanuelle Haïm, Pinchas Steinberg, Bernard Têtu, Raphaël Pichon, Gabriel Garrido or
Emmanuel Joel-Hornak.
Invited by several ensembles and orchestras, he regularly works for instance with Les Cris de Paris
(program Memento Mori in Paris, Besançon, Dijon and recording), the ensembles Amarillis and
Pulcinella, the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, Namur's Choeur de Chambre, Le Concert
Spirituel (Te Fairy Queen in Paris Salle Pleyel), les Talens Lyriques ( Platée ; Dauvergne's
Hercule Mourant ; Haendel's Alcina ; the Monteverdi program Zefro Torna...) ; the Orchestre
national d'Ile-de-France (Mozart's Requiem) ; Te Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire ( Te
Messiah in Nantes) ; or the ensemble Pygmalion (Dardanus in Beaune, Bach concerts in Bordeaux
or Sablé sur Sarthe) ; les Musiciens du Louvre and Marc Minkowski ( Mass in B minor in Essen,
Amestredam, Laussane and Vienna) ; Te Concert d'Astrée and Rolando Villazon (Brême's
Musikfest) ; the Arpeggitata (Utrecht's Festival) ; Cappella Mediterranea ( Amore Siciliano in
Oldenburg and Ambronay) ; or the Pulcinella ensemble (On Orfeo steps )...
Among his recordings can be mentioned Monteverdi's Vêpres with the ensemble Orlando
Fribourg, and also with Christina Pluhar's l'Arpeggiata ; La Capricciosa Coretta, Il Tutore
Burlato (Martin y Soler), Roland (Lully) and Il Califo di Bagdad (M. Garcia) with Les Talens
Lyriques ; Lully's Grands Motets with Le Concert Spirituel ; Pièces pour orgue et voix by César
Frank with Les Solistes de Lyon ; Farnace (role of Aquilo) with I Barrochisti (dir D. Fasolis) ; and
with Pygmalion, Bach's Messes brèves BWV 234-235 and BWV 233-236, and Bach's Mass in B.
Recently were released a selection of Bach's arias with Pulcinella, Hercule Mourant with les Talens
Lyriques, Memento Mori with les Cris de Paris, and with the Lafayette Opera company Le
Magnifque a n d Lalla Roukh or the DVD recording of L'Incoronazione di Poppea with Le
Concert d'Astrée.
