Bio Speaker 2: [CRIGE-PACA: The Regional Center for Geographic Information in ProvenceAlpes-Côte d’Azur is a non-profit making organization created in 2002 and led by national and
regional authorities. It is positioned as a coordination center for the specification, purchase and
providing of Geographic References Data via the Regional Geoportal. It provides Technical Support to
the users and realizes the animation of the Geomatic Regional Network and thematic clusters.

maître en droit privé (Paris II), et ancien auditeur de la 48e session nationale Armement et Économie
de Défense de l’IHEDN, François Ardant a 25 ans d’expérience dans la modélisation et la visualisation
de phénomènes complexes et dans l’innovation. Après avoir mis en œuvre et enrichi ces compétences
dans des sociétés précédentes (secteurs santé, finances, Internet), il se consacre maintenant avec
Ardanti Défense à la Défense et à la Sécurité

realistic applications such as staff training, exercise, after-action review, doctrine&equipment analysis.
Abstract
High fidelity representation of landscapes is an asset to obtain better learning, exercises, operational
preparation with simulators. Finding High resolution open data is a source of innovative products. To
be in capacity to introduce rapidly data from different sources in the defence simulators is a
condition for preparation to emergency situations.
We propose a special session for the use of cartographic data in defence simulation.
Examples of governance of data in local, national (data.shom.fr) and european data infrastructures
will be presented by the CRIGE-PACA.
The CEISIM (centre of expertise of the network-centric warfare and of the simulation) will present a
strategic evaluation of the needs to create a special unit of management of data for military
simulation. Needs of technical tools, human resources and expertises will be evaluated.
Moreover, 3 companies will give us their return of experiences using data from the CRIGE and other
platforms :
ARDANTI DEFENCE, with their experience with a mission preparation tool which uses a 12 inch
commercial tablet or smartphone, to analyze a 100 square km theater, (with pixels of 15 cm on some
areas).
MASA GROUP, will describe what adaptations they did to use open GIS data, coming from a local
public data platform, for the VULCAIN operation.
Thales Training Simulation, will do a presentation that will remind all the necessary steps, traps to
avoid, and suggestions to improve the final results, allowing the capitalization and the sharing of the
databases between various partners. A list of recommendations will be submitted.
