Notre champ de recherche
s'inscrit dans la lignée de
l'attention portée à la production
littéraire en Belgique
francophone. C'est ainsi que
l'année 2013 voit la publication
d'un premier ouvrage portant sur
la biographie intellectuelle de
quinze traducteurs, nés en
Belgique ou ayant de fortes
attaches avec notre royaume.
Aujourd’hui, nous souhaitons
prolonger la réflexion en
poursuivant le chemin inverse :
dévoiler le mystère qui entoure
la traduction des lettres
francophones de Belgique.
Our field of research is part of a
long line of interest in the
literature of french speaking
Belgium. It was in this way that
2003 saw the publication of the
first work concerning the
biography of 15 translators, born
in Belgium or having strong
connections with our kingdom.
These days we wish to prolong
these reflections continuing the
enquiry in reverse: unveiling the
mystery which surrounds the
translation of Belgian french
literature.
INTRODUCTION
En 2013, le « Service de communication écrite » publie un
premier ouvrage collectif (« Traductrices et traducteurs
belges » - ISBN 978-2-87325-07404), dont l’intitulé renvoie
aux « Portraits de traducteurs » de Jean Delisle (Université
d’Ottawa).
Aujourd’hui, nous tenons à cœur de prolonger la réflexion sur
les liens qui sous-tendent les relations entre littérature belge et
œuvres traduites.
In 2013, the « Service of written communication » published a
first collective work (« Belgian translators » - ISBN 978-287325-07404), the title of which made reference to Jean
Delisle’s « Portraits of translators » (Ottawa University). Today
we are keen to extend our thoughts on the underlying
connections between Belgian literature and the translated
works.

APPROCHES
Nous adopterons deux approches dont la complémentarité
nous semble susceptible de dévoiler les stratégies d’écriture
mises en place par les écrivains-traducteurs.
- La première approche consiste à aborder la question de la
traduction littéraire sous l’angle biographique. Les auteurs
contribuant à notre ouvrage seront amenés à dresser le
portrait d’écrivains-traducteurs ayant marqué un intérêt
particulier pour les lettres belges.
- La deuxième approche consiste à aborder la question de la
traduction littéraire sous l’angle de l'œuvre traduite.

We will adopt 2 complimentary approaches which we consider
likely to reveal the writing practices used by writer-translators.
- The first consists of approaching the question of literary
translation from the point of view of biography. The authors
contributing to the collective work will provide a picture of the
writer-translators who have shown a particular interest in
belgian writing.
- The second consists of dealing with the question of literary
translation with regard to the translated work.

FIL CONDUCTEUR
- Pour les « portraitistes », le fil conducteur
s’orientera en fonction de quatre questions:
Quelles sont les modalités du traduire ? Peut-on,
à travers l’analyse de la traduction, dégager une
poétique du traduire ? Quel est l’impact culturel
de l’œuvre traduite ? En quoi le « matériau
biographique » est-il révélateur de l’intérêt de
l’écrivain-traducteur pour les lettres belges?
- Pour les « analystes », le fil conducteur
s’orientera en fonction de cinq questions: Quels
écarts, quelles pratiques concrètes
d’appropriation du texte peut-on constater ? Quel
est le contexte spécifique de réception ? Quel est
l’impact des femmes traductrices sur l’ensemble
des transferts culturels ? Quel sens donner aux
mutations génériques (y compris, par exemple,
adaptation musicale d’un texte narratif) ? Quels
sont les phénomènes de transferts ayant
contribué à la diffusion de l’œuvre ?
- The « portraitists » will answer in response to 4
questions: What are the modes of translation?
Can an analysis of translation reveal the art of
translation? What ist the cultural impact of the
translated work? In what way does the
« biographical material » indicate the interest of
the writer-translation in Belgian writing?
- The « analysts » will answer in response to 5
questions: Which gaps in the concrete practice of
appropriation of the text can be noticed? What is
the specific context of the way in which the text
is received? What is the impact of the cultural
transfer as a whole? What meaning is to be given
to the generic changes (including for example the
musical interpretation of a narrative text)?
