The Museum of Possibilities is a field of balloons that invites visitors to share their dreams and visions in a playful yet actionable poll of public opinion, inspiring people to imagine the possibilities. j’aimerais voir faire rencontrer Ici, j’aimerais voir faire rencontrer Make your own version of this project if you want to imagine how to use public space differently. Elements Before the event A few days before the event, make sure you announce it to local residents and relevant stakeholders. Send out emails, inform the local newspaper. Also use this as an opportunity to advertise an online or physical space where your possibilities will be shared with everyone after the event. The purpose is to take the shared ideas into action afterwards. Make it happen! On the day of the event, make sure you welcome your visitors, inform them of what you are doing and equip them them to the arrows and /or yes! stickers. Don’t forget to invite them to the workshop area. A small note on the weather A part of the Museum of Possibilities’ success depends on mother nature. Balloons are very sensitive to weather. In high temperature, they will burst. If it rains, they will burst, if the wind is too strong, it will put too much pressure on the sticks... So plan for a back-up day if you can. At the end of the day... Give the balloons to participants, pack up the steel tubes and keep the arrows. A. Field of balloons B. Arrows and Yes! stickers C. Possibilities workshop station To make a field grid Contribution props! ă ă ă ă Members of the public pick up a paper arrow and write down what they would like to see, do, or who they would like to meet in this space. A set of playful activities serve as prompts – ‘at sunset’, ‘by bicycle’ or ‘with the girl of my dreams’ – help visitors imagine scenarios of when, how, and with whom events might happen. String Pegs Measuring tape Patience Material Find a space that needs to have its possibilities polled. It can be outdoor, or indoor. Visitors also receive a set of stickers so they can wander through the possibilities and add votes of approval, collectively choosing the best visions for their shared space Material Material ă ă ă ă ă ă ă ă Balloons Alluminum poles (½ " diametre, 8" high) Funnels (one per ballon) Tape A daily tous les jours project To download the project templates, go to: http://www.dailytouslesjours.com/infinite-possibilities/ Cardboard, scissors, tape Bingo ball roller Colourful juice (Sirop works well) Plastic cups PDF files downloaded from: http://www.dailytouslesjours.com/infinite-possibilities/ ă If outside, little weights will help keep everything in place. Step 1: The grid Step 1: Print Game 1. Bingo: With whom? Clear the space as much as you can to create a field of balloons (can be done a few days in advance). ă ă ă ă Print the Bingo.pdf file and add your own suggestions. Make little paper doors on top of each suggestions to keep them a surprise. To be used with a bingo wheel. ă Draw up your grid on a piece of paper, planning for how many ballons and pegs you’ll beed. ă Use the string and pegs to measure the exact position of each balloon. Ideal spacing for 60 cm wide balloons is 2 x 2 m. ă Place a pole at each location where two strings cross. Print the arrows using the template on the project website. Alternatively cut and copy the attached arrow. Use thick card stock for the arrows. For the stickers well, yes, on sticky paper. Plan about 1 ½ arrows and 3 stickers per participant. Step 2: Prepare the arrows Step 2: Install the balloons funnel taped to pole Inflate each balloon and place it inside a funnel to keep it straight. Attach it to one of the sticks (on the day of the event). Trick Record the content and publish it on a previously advertised online forum to inspire everyone to turn the possibilities into probabilities! Card stock paper for the arrows Pens (not too fine or bold) Whole punch Ribbon ă ă ă ă ă Don’t inflate the balloons too much and don’t use helium or your balloons might pop more easily. Also be ware that dark colored balloons will more likely pop in direct sunlight. We asked a balloon expert for help, it’s not as easy as it seems! If indoor: You can have them filled with helium, this way you don’t need the sticks. Attach a string and use something to add weight so that the balloons are lower than the ceiling. Et voilà! the field is ready for your Museum. Cut up the arrows (if it’s not done by your printer) Punch a hole at the top and the bottom Attach a 6 inch ribbon in each hole Game 2. Dice: When? Print the dice.pdf file and add your own suggestions. Assemble with colourful tape. Step 3: Signage Make a poster to inform the public of what your event is. Triangle flag banners will set a festive tone. You can use the template to make one. Game 3. Juice of possibilites: How? Step 4: Set the table Place the arrows, pens and stickers on a table. This will be your welcome station for your participants. Make sure the table is well attended during the event so you can inform and orient your visitors throughout the day. You can also use a large piece of paper as a tabletop and print information about your event on it. Buy different colour juices. You may use syrups like Teisseire, they have a nice combination of bright colours and good taste. Print the juice.pdf file and add your own suggestions. Use as papercloth on a table. Place a glass of juice on each circle.
