Welcome to the Baloise Safety World. Today’s topic: protection from burglaries.
As the nights grow longer, burglars take advantage of the twilight to earn their livelihood. How high their
earnings will be depends on you!
Here are a few simple tricks:
Pass the key to your apartment only to someone you trust. What you might think is a clever hiding place is
probably not so clever!
Do not leave any windows tilted open and always lock the door to your apartment.
Install additional security measures. Time plays an important role in a burglary. If a burglar is not inside a
building within two minutes, he will more often than not, give up on his intention to break in.
Did you know that burglars prefer to work between 4 pm and 10 pm?
Thirty percent of them manage to get into a house or apartment without any tools.
Never give the impression that the building is unoccupied. Affective aids are timers and motion sensors. Noise
and light generally scare them off.
When you go on vacation, arrange for someone to empty your mailbox regularly and avoid revealing your
absence on your telephone answering machine.
And impressive photos of your vacation should only be shared with your friends once you have returned home,
as burglars are now also informing themselves via social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter about where
you are and when.
Therefore, a good relationship with your neighbors can be useful. They as well as you should always keep an
eye open for anything unusual or suspicious and report this immediately.
We thank you for your attention.
