Wine List - The Cottage in the Wood

Our philosophy on wine and other beverages....
As with our food, we are proud to showcase Cumbrian products and producers. There are many
fine ales and beers that are brewed locally. Several small distilleries produce distinctive spirits, this
includes whisky, gin and vodka, particularly the Lakes distillery at Bassenthwaite lake, just a stones
throw away. We use Cumbrian wine suppliers Lakeland Vintners of Ings, near Windermere. This is
a family owned wine merchant that sources wines of distinction from small, family owned producers,
including award winning English wines. Our French wines are sourced mainly through specialist
suppliers Vine Trail. Using no agents or brokers they provide a very individual selection, sourced
from smaller growers/producers.
Angharad and Gareth of Carvetii in Embleton strive to produce the best coffee possible. They
achieve this through careful sourcing of beans, innovative roasting and an obsession with training
their clients.
Even bottled waters comes from our own spring on Magic Hill. Not only does this reduce our carbon
foot print, for every bottle sold £1.00 is contributed to Nurture Lakeland. This is a unique, award
winning organisation inspiring people to care for Cumbria’s natural environment, through
responsible tourism.
We believe that really good food deserves great wine. We hope this will excite and tempt you to try
something new, and 'off the beaten track'
