manuel.
S’entraîner à comprendre des écrits longs
a Les rubriques Practicals permettent à l’élève d’annoter à même

DEBRIEFING

Before working on Your Project, fill in chart 1 and compare what
you have learnt with what your classmates have learnt.
Fill in chart 2 after working on Your Project.
What I have done
In Steps 1 and 2…
Activities & documents
I have gathered
information from
different sources
and broadened my
knowledge of gap year
experiences.
I have read other
people’s opinions
and personal accounts
of gap years.
I have learned to form
opinions after reflecting
on other people’s
opinions first.
I have learned how
to apply for a job or a
volunteer position.

What I need to work on

and follow your teacher’s instructions.
2. Explaining your choice
Read the following advice written by Tabitha Cook who spent a year volunteering.
If you are thinking of volunteering, look at who
you live with, whether it is a homestay or with
other volunteers. I chose to live with other volunteers because I wanted to be around people that I
could moan to if it all got on top of me and so that
if I made a cultural boo-boo, I wouldn’t offend
those I was living with. It was the best decision I
ever made. I made so many friends and learnt a
lot, plus we had some great house parties.
Charlotte Hindle, Patrick Pringle, Volunteer: A Traveler’s Guide to
Making a Difference Around the World (2007)
a. Tabitha chose to live with other volunteers. Underline the reasons for her choice.
b. Other gappers chose a homestay, i.e to be hosted by a local family. List possible reasons for
their choices.

Dear Mr Jones,
