Au moment où la plupart des écoles du monde
commencent une nouvelle année scolaire, ici
aux Philippines nous commençons la saison de
Noël. L’année scolaire ici commence en juin
après les ‘mois d’été’, avril et mai. Nous fêtons
Noël pendant les mois qui s’épellent avec un
‘ber’ : September, October, November and
December. Alors nous avons commencé à
décorer et notre arbre de Noël est installé et la
musique de Noël est entendue partout aux
Philippines. Ici on aime fêter!
Comme vous le savez déjà, S. Editha souffre de la leucémie, et nous avons été chanceuses
que l’an dernier ses médicaments nous ont été fournis gratuitement. La compagnie
internationale qui donnait cela n’est plus capable de continuer car il y a trop de patients
maintenant.
Cette année les patients doivent payer une partie et comme c’est très
dispendieux nous avons cherché pour trouver de l’aide financière. Le «Philippine
Sweepstakes Charity Office» est organisé pour aider à payer le coût des soins médicaux aux
Philippines. Au Canada, les fonds de loterie vont souvent pour les organisations de sport
mais ici c’est seulement pour les coûts des soins médicaux. C’est la manière d’aider ceux qui
ont besoin d’aide médicale.
Alors, nous sommes allées à Cebu nous mettre en ligne avec ceux qui demandent de l’aide et
nous avons rempli les documents requis. Finalement nous avons eu de l’aide pour les
médicaments pour 14 jours. De là nous sommes allées à notre gouvernement local à Talibon
qui pouvait nous donner de l’aide pour 1 jour et ils nous ont envoyées voir le Député à
Tagbilaran car il a accès à plus de fonds. De son bureau, il nous a envoyées au
Département des Œuvres Sociales et de Développement, qui est finalement le Bureau
National qui accepte seulement les documents originaux (que nous avions donnés à PSCO)
Alors ils nous ont envoyées au Bureau Provincial qui à son tour nous a envoyées au
‘Capital Building’ pour obtenir les signatures de tous les membres de ce Conseil. De retour
au bureau DSWD avec les documents, ils nous ont dit de revenir la semaine suivante pour
une entrevue.
Le lundi suivant nous attendions notre tour avec plusieurs personnes et après avoir donné les
documents requis, nous avons attendu pour recevoir de l’aide. Nous avons obtenu de l’aide
en médicaments pour 2 jours. Cela a été une expérience pour nous de voir ce que les pauvres
doivent faire pour trouver de l’aide mais, en route nous avons rencontré plusieurs anges qui
étaient là pour nous donner un coup de mains et nous avons vu les visages de personnes qui
souffrent de toutes sortes de maladies.
Notre Administration Générale nous a envoyé les fonds nécessaires pour payer les coûts de
surplus pour les médicaments de S. Editha pour 16 jours encore. Deux semaines plus
tard, nous avons reçu un message que S. Editha pouvait aller prendre ses médicaments à
Cebu et quand nous sommes arrivées au dispensaire, nous avons eu la surprise de recevoir
les médicaments pour jusqu’à la fin de l’année. Dieu est si bon et nous attribuons cela à
l’intercession de Mère Fondatrice et des autres MCR du ciel que nous avons invoquées
régulièrement.
Le mois de septembre est très occupé pour nous toutes dans notre travail régulier, nos
services à la maison de retraite, le programme de nourriture de chaque semaine à l’Ecole
Elementaire de Rizal, nos visites chez les pauvres d’alentours. S. Cielo et S. Elena vont
chaque semaine à Cebu pour suivre leur cour de catéchèse et d’apostolat avec les jeunes. S.
Elena prends aussi des leçons de musique au piano et S. Nardine continue d’apprendre la
langue, le Visayan. Le 17 Septembre, S. Nardine et S. Editha ont assisté au Congrès
Diocésain de la Bible qui était à Alicia cette année, cela a été pour S. Nardine une journée
d’immersion dans la langue Visayan par les deux conférenciers et avec plus de 1,700
participants qui montrent une réelle soif de la Bible. ☺
Chaque mois nous visitons une paroisse du Diocèse
pour notre campagne de Vocations. Vous voyez ici les
sœurs avec le curé de la paroisse de Duero. Les
sœurs à leur tour donnent un exposé sur notre
congrégation après la messe et invitent les jeunes
femmes de la paroisse à venir voir!

 As most of the world begins a new school year with
September here in the Philippines we begin the Christmas
season! Our school year begins in June after the ‘summer
months’ of April and May and we begin to celebrate
Christmas with the months of ‘ber’. So we have begun to
decorate and our Christmas tree is up and Christmas music
can be heard everywhere, the Filipinos love to celebrate!
 As you know our Sr. Editha has leukemia and we were very
fortunate that her medication last year was provide free of charge. The
international company that did so has found that there are so many patients now
that they are no longer able to do so. This year the patients are required to pay a
portion and as this is very expensive we began the search for financial assistance.
The Philippine Sweepstakes Charity Office is set up to help with medical costs, in
Canada the lottery funds often go to sports organizations but here it is strictly for
medical costs as it is the way for people to get medical help. So we lined up in
Cebu with the many others seeking help and filed out all the necessary
documents. In the end they were able to give the funds for 14 days of medicine.
From there we went to our local government in Talibon which could only give the
funds for 1 day and they sent us to see our Congressman in Tagbilaran as he has
access to more funds.
So making the trip there from his office they sent us to the Department of Social
Welfare and Development, which turned out to be the National Office who
accepts only original documents (which we had given to the PSCO) so they sent us
to the Provincial office which in turn sent us to the Capital Building to secure the
signatures of all the Boardmembers. On returning to the DSWD office with the
documents they told us to come back the next week for an interview. The
following Monday we returned to wait with the many others and after submitting
the necessary documents we waited for the release of funds. In the end the
provincial government gave the money for 2 days medicine.
It was an experience for us of what the poor and needy have to do in looking for
assistance but along the way we met many ‘angels’ who were there to help us as
well as seeing the faces of so many suffering from all kinds of diseases.
Our General Administration was able to send us the funds necessary to pay the
additional costs of Sr. Editha’s medicine which gave her the medicine for another
16 days. Two weeks later we received notice that she could pick up her medicine
in Cebu and in going to the distributor we were surprised to receive the medicine
for the rest of the year. God is so good and we attribute this to the intercession of
Mother Foundress and the MCR sisters in heaven whom we regularly invoke!
 The month of September was busy for all of us as we go about our regular duties,
functions at the retreat house, our weekly feeding program at Rizal Elementary
School, visiting the poor and sick in our area. Sr. Cielo and Sr. Elena also travel
weekly to Cebu to attend their course on catechetic and youth ministry. Sr. Elena is
also taking weekly music lessons on the keyboard and Sr. Nardine continues to study
the Visayan language. On September 17th Sr. Nardine and Sr. Editha attended the
Diocesan Bible Congress held this year in Alicia, it was a full day of Visayan
immersion for Sr. Nardine but they were impressed by both the speakers and by the
turn out of over 1,700 participants which shows a real thirst for the Bible.
Each month we visit a parish in the Diocese for our
Vocation Campaign; here the sisters are with the parish
priest in Duero. The sisters take turns after the mass
giving a short exposure to our congregation and
inviting the young women of the parish to ‘Come and
See!’
