The 3rd International Conference on Friction Stir Welding and Processing (FSWP’2014) will provide
an excellent intercommunication opportunity for researchers working in this multidisciplinary field
of scientific endeavor.
This conference brings together researchers, practitioners and new comers to the field in an
international forum that addresses recent advances in friction stir welding and related processes. It
will also serve as vehicle that strengthens relationships between industry, research laboratories, and
universities.
Friction stir processes are very promising techniques for either welding (Friction Stir Welding) or
surface treatment (Friction Stir Processing). As with more conventional friction welding methods used
since the early 50’s, such processes take the advantage of taking place in the solid state which allows
them to be applied to materials difficult to join (aluminum alloys, composites, etc…) or to treat with
the usual techniques.
In the current industrial context where competition is fierce, companies have to develop their products
within short deadlines and at reduced costs. Controlling the manufacturing process and its
consequences on the end product is a major asset. In this respect, the analysis of friction stir welding
and related techniques are of particular importance to study the feasibility, optimize the operating
parameters or analyze the lifetime of an assembly.
The purpose of the 3rd International Conference on Friction Stir Welding and Processing
(FSWP’2014) is to facilitate the communication between specialists in various fields of friction stir
welding processes. Presentations concerning all the steps are welcome: from fundamental studies to
applied aspects, from experimental to numerical research.
The conference aims to present the state of the art together with the latest advances dealing with the
following items:
•
Relationships between microstructure, mechanical and functional properties,
•
Modeling and numerical simulation,
•
Process and Applications
