Robert Jones grew up in Windsor, Ontario where he began studying the piano at age 6. He
began studying the organ under David Palmer when he entered high school and has served
as a church organist since he was 15. He graduated with an honours Bachelor of Music
degree from the University of Windsor in 1980. Two of the credits were obtained while
studying at the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England.
After obtaining his Master of Music degree from the University of Western Ontario in
London in 1982, he moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he was Director of Music at Central
United Church form 1982-99. In 1999 he moved to Ottawa to become Organist and Choir
Director at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (Somerset Street West). Robert Jones also plays for
the Saturday mass and funerals at St. Basil’s Roman Catholic Church (Ottawa) and directs
two handbell choirs at the United Church in Winchester.
He has just completed his first season as conductor of the Seaway Valley Singers (based in
Williamsburg) and the Bytown Voices (Ottawa). From 2001-2005, he taught handbells at a
week-long summer music day camp in Iqaluit. As well as presenting recitals across Ontario,
he has performed in Saskatchewan as well as England’s Coventry Cathedral. He holds the
Associateship and Choir Master diplomas from the Royal Canadian College of Organists and
is active in the Ottawa Centre of the RCCO.
Originaire de Windsor en Ontario, Robert Jones commence l’étude du piano { l’âge de six
ans. Organiste pour divers églises depuis l’âge de quinze ans, c’est avec David Palmer qu’il
commence l’étude de cet instrument durant son adolescence. En 1980, il obtient un
baccalauréat en musique de l’Université de Windsor. ll a aussi étudié { la Royal School of
Church Music à Croydon, en Angleterre.
En 1982, après avoir reçu une maîtrise en musique de la University of Western Ontario,
Robert Jones déménage à Sault Ste. Marie où il sera directeur de musique pour la Central
United Church jusqu’en 1999. Puis, il déménage { Ottawa où les postes d’organiste et de
chef de chœur de la St. Luke’s Anglican Church l’attendent. Il travaille aussi comme
organiste à la St. Basil’s Roman Catholic Church d’Ottawa et dirige deux chœurs de cloches {
main à la United Church de Winchester.
Robert Jones a enseigné les cloches à main de 2001 à 2005 à Iqualuit, lors de camps
musicaux d’une durée d’une semaine chacun. Il s’est produit comme organiste en Ontario,
en Saskatchewan ainsi qu’en Angleterre. Il vient de terminer sa première saison { titre de
chef des Seaway Valley Singers de Williamsburg des Bytown Voices d’Ottawa. Il détient les
diplômes de Associateship et Choir Master du Collège royal canadien des organistes et
