Image Here YOUNG MEN, MASCULINITY AND SOCIAL MEDIA: A BILINGUAL COLLOQUIUM Friday, February 5th, 2016 14:00-16:00, H-1120 ‘Nous les gars’: Les adolescent masculins et l’intimité sur Youtube Claire Balleys, Chercheure postdoctorale, Observatoire jeunes et société, Institut national de la recherche scientifique Comment les garçons problématisent-ils les questions liées à l’intimité, quelle soit corporelle (puberté, pilosité, masturbation) ou relationnelle (sentimentalité, couple, amitié), à travers des vidéocasts humoristiques postés sur Youtube ? Claire Balleys va présenter dans cette intervention les premiers résultats d’une recherche postdoctorale en cours, sur la socialisation masculine et la gestion de l’intimité à l’adolescence. Social Expectations and Methodological Deliberations: Gender, Sexuality and Twitter in the Lives of Adolescent Male Ice Hockey Players Cheryl MacDonald, Doctoral Candidate, Social and Cultural Analysis, Concordia University The presentation will outline the results of a content analysis of the Twitter accounts of adolescent male ice hockey players in Canada while looking specifically at how gender and sexuality are situated within their self-presentations and interactions. The methodological challenges associated with nonobtrusive research on social media platforms will also be discussed in the context of a constantly changing and developing digital culture.
