His involvement in conservation and the ecological movement began in 1972 when with his wife Lydia he founded Greece’s leading environmental organization, Elliniki Etairia yia tin Prostasia tou Perivallontos kai tis Politistikis Klironomias (Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and the Cultural Heritage). He served as its first Chairman and was again elected Chairman in April 2001. He has represented Elliniki Etairia in Europa Nostra, the Federation of European Conservation Organizations, since 1973 and has been Vice-­‐President since 1976. He also founded and remains Vice-­‐Chairman of the Society for the Preservation of the Greek Heritage, USA. He was the organizer of the ground-­‐breaking 1998 meeting on Religion and the Environment in Patmos and took part in subsequent meetings in Ormylia, Halkidiki and Kolymbari in Crete. He served as the Co-­‐
Chairman of the British Council of Churches’ Commission on Trinitarian Doctrine. His paper on “The Doctrine of the Trinity in Relation to Political Action and Thought” is published in the volume of papers presented to the Commission. He co-­‐edited “Living Orthodoxy in the Modern World” (SPGU, 1996), which includes the article “The Holy Trinity, the Church and Politics in a Secular World” and which was translated and published in Greek. He is an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He also served, since its inception 1
in 1978, on the Assembly of the Diocese of Sourozh, Britain, whose Chairmanship he left in 1999. His published works include “3,000 Years of Greek Identity – Myth or Reality” (1984) and contributions to “Democracy and Civil Society in the Balkans” (1996). He obtained a Double First in Ancient Greek and Latin Literature, and in Philosophy and Ancient History from Trinity College, Oxford. Francesco Bandarin Francesco Bandarin, architect and planner, served as Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre from September 2000 to March 2011. He was appointed UNESCO Assistant Director-­‐General for Culture in May 2010. He trained as an architect (Venice, 1975) and as an urban planner (UC Berkeley, 1977) and has pursued an academic career as Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Venice (IUAV) and a professional career as a consultant for international organizations in the field of urban conservation and development. He was Director of the Italian Special Projects Office for the Safeguarding of Venice and its Lagoon, and Director of Special Programmes for the 2000 Jubilee Preparations in Rome. He has written numerous specialized publications and articles, and co-­‐authored “The Historic Urban Landscape: Managing in an Urban Century”, published in 2012. Bonnie Burnham Bonnie Burnham is President and Chief Executive Officer of the World Monuments Fund and has led its international historic preservation work since 1985, when she joined the organization as Executive Director. Previously she served from 1975 to 1985 as executive director of the International Foundation for Art Research. Ms. Burnham is an expert in the protection and preservation of cultural heritage. She holds degrees in the history of art from the University of Florida and the Université de Paris-­‐Sorbonne. Ms. Burnham has been honored as a Chevalier of the French Order of Arts and Letters, is a Distinguished Alumna of the College of Fine Arts of the University of Florida, and is the first recipient of its Beinecke-­‐
Reeves Distinguished Achievement Award in Historic Preservation. She holds an honorary doctorate from Florida Southern College. Professor Simon Richard Molesworth AM, QC BA, LLB, LFEIANZ, FAICD, FAIM, FVPELA, PIA (Hon.F), C.Env.P., M.ICOMOS Simon is the foundation Chairman of the Executive Board of the International National Trusts Organisation (“INTO”). INTO is the co-­‐ordinated voice for some seven million National Trust members and tens of millions supporters world-­‐wide. Simon convenes the INTO Working Group on Climate Change, and was INTO’s Head of Delegation to the last three UN COP conferences. He wrote The Victoria Declaration on the Implications for Cultural Sustainability of Climate Change and regularly speaks at international conferences on topics as diverse as heritage law & policy, climate change, sustainability, renewable energy, and environmental policy & law. Simon represents the Australian National Trusts at the INTO World Congress as the Australian Council of National Trusts’ International Affairs Ambassador since late 2009. Simon was a councillor of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) from 1980-­‐2005, during which time he was honorary chairman and then president for almost 20 years. He was a board member of the ACNT 1988-­‐
2009 and its chairman 2001-­‐06. He was a Commissioner of the Australian Commonwealth’s Australian Heritage Commission for 5 years from 1987 and was the longest standing member, 1996-­‐2010, of the Government’s National Cultural Heritage Committee, responsible for the Protection of Moveable Cultural Heritage Act. In practice, he has been a Queen’s Counsel at the Victorian Bar since 1995 specializing in environmental, planning, heritage and natural resource law. He is also a Professor with Melbourne’s La Trobe University in its La Trobe Institute for Social and Environmental Sustainability and is a fellow of five professional institutes in Australia. 2

EWH is responsible for coordinating aspects of the management of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site, through conservation, repair, education, outreach and interpretation. Prior to this Adam was Secretary of SAVE Britain’s Heritage, leading the campaigning organisation for seven years in its fights for threatened buildings and areas across the UK. He remains on SAVE’s committee and is involved with some of its international campaigns through Save Europe’s heritage. Prior to this he worked for a very short while in Paris at UNESCO’s Division of Cultural Heritage. Adam sits on the Council of Europa Nostra, is Secretary to the RSA’s Media, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage network, and is a fellow of both the Royal Society for the Arts and Manufacture and the Society of Antiquaries. Wolter Braamhorst Wolter (1963) is a cultural historian with more than twenty years of experience in the international media world as a manager, producer and director. Since 2007 he works as a communication consultant for TVCulture in the Netherlands. TVCulture specialises in the international not-­‐for-­‐profit sector. Bertrand de Feydeau Après une formation juridique, Sciences Po et l’Ecole du Louvre, Bertrand de Feydeau a débuté sa carrière dans l’immobilier (Groupe de l’Union Internationale Immobilière) et a participé, en tant que Directeur Financier, à son développement à travers le monde entre 1972 et 1982. En 1982, il intègre l’équipe de Claude Bébéar, groupe d’assurances régional qui, en quelques années, sous le nom d’AXA, deviendra l’un des principaux groupes mondiaux de l’activité financière. Responsable pendant 18 ans de l’activité immobilière du groupe, il a participé à la structuration des dites activités en vue de leur donner une dimension internationale et financière. Il est aujourd’hui Président de F.D.L. (Foncière Développement Logements) et administrateur de différentes sociétés immobilières (KLEPIERRE, AFFINE, KLEMURS, Foncière des Régions) et Président de la Fondation Palladio. En 2000, il a rejoint, à l’appel de Mgr Lustiger, le diocèse de Paris en qualité de DG des Affaires Economiques et a été le Maître d’Ouvrage de la restauration du Collège des Bernardins, inauguré en Septembre 2008 Depuis juillet 2010, il est Président de la Fondation des Bernardins. Lejla Hadzic currently working as regional coordinator at Cultural Heritage without Borders, where her experience ranges within three following areas: Regional Coordinator -­‐ Overall management of on going restoration projects in the Western Balkan Region. 4
Each of an on going projects are built in a way to have on going restorations as a field for hands-­‐on training in traditional materials and techniques. The knowledge acquired by participants who are coming from the whole South East Europe is developed as a combination of practical exercises on site (mixing lime, repairing historical doors etc)and lectures delivered by specialists and experts from Turkey, Sweden, UK, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Serbia etc. This type of education is implemented in the World Heritage Site of Gjirokastra, Albania, where participants meet twice a year, in a form of regional restoration camps, while the education is accredited by respective Universities. Conservation architect – Design of full restoration projects and training of architects in the field of restoration/conservation, ranging from surveying techniques to implementation and quality supervision of ongoing restorations, both in a capacity of Cultural Heritage without Borders, State institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania to private persons wanting to restore/conserve monuments in their possession. Specific part of the above is a development of maintenance programs and plans for restored historical monuments, both in aspect of training about and developing documents. The work itself was conducted on the wide range of buildings, from religious monuments to residential buildings, fortifications, vernacular heritage and industrial heritage, where one of the main objectives beside restoring them was to convert them into sustainably used monuments e.g 1st category monument being turned into Hostel with a parts being turned into a space for public. Project/program manager – Dealing with Governmental and Non-­‐Governmental institutions and Educational institutions in the countries of Western Balkan, in order to establish cooperation, and obtain necessary permits for the works. Initiator of different activities, starting from founding an NGO network in the region of South East Europe to public awareness (developing and displaying different types of exhibitions) to handling different project proposals for wide range of donors Stelios Lekakis, MA PhD Archaeologist -­‐ CHM Consultant He studied classical archaeology at the University of Athens and after his MA studies (UCL, Managing Archaeological Sites) he works as a consultant in Greece, focusing on sustainable strategies of managing archaeological sites in island and urban environments and the role of local communities (thematics of his PhD, University of Athens). He works with NGOs and University Departments on various heritage projects and excavations. Vítor Cóias Vítor Cóias graduated in Civil Engineering by the Technical University of Lisbon in 1968. Worked at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC), Lisbon, then became involved in the design of concrete structures and foundations. In 1980 he established STAP, a contracting SME specializing in constructive and structural rehabilitation. Later on he established two other companies, one dealing with survey and NDT testing for quality control, diagnostics and monitoring of structures, and another one, Monumenta, specializing in ancient structures and architectural heritage. All companies are operating, employing around 110 people. In 1997, along with other companies of similar scope, he founded GECoRPA, the Portuguese Heritage Guild. Vítor Cóias is a specialist in structures with the Portuguese Order of Engineers, member of ASCE, IABSE, CIB, CHS, ICOMOS and expert member of ISCARSAH (ICOMOS committee on heritage structures). He specializes in constructive and structural interventions in ancient buildings and architectural heritage, namely assessment, inspection and testing regarding evaluation and diagnosis, structural design with emphasis on seismic behavior, and actual jobsite interventions, with particular regard for low intrusion techniques. Vitor Cóias has authored three books and a large number of papers on his subjects of professional interest. His Master-­‐Thesis, “History of Ideas, History of the Theory of Architecture and Heritage Preservation, was published in Portugal by Scribe in 2010. After his studies he followed a specialization at the Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg in Zeist (Dutch National Heritage Institute). Through his knowledge and experience in the European Heritage World and Institutions, he developed and 7
shaped his critical attitude towards Portugal, a country which, even if it has already successfully implemented several restoration projects in accordance with international standards, nevertheless was never able to develop a true, solid and systematic conservation culture sustained and conducted by restoration architects, free from political influence and recognised by general consensus. He is strongly committed to the defense of architectural heritage, academically, in direct action and as a publicist, especially in Lisbon. For many years, besides working as an adviser, he has been active as an opinion maker and author of challenging articles in Portugal’s leading national newspaper Público. Recently Rosa de Carvalho expanded his activities to new (social) media on internet. João M. Joseph was actively involved in MZPN (Youth Movement of the Nationalist Party , and EPP)where he served as Secretary General. In 2000 he was elected in the Msida Local Council and subsequently, in 2003 he was elected youngest member of Parliament at the age of 29, and re-­‐elected in 2008. He is the government deputy whip and member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on House Business. He is a Member of the Maltese Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and was Elected Chairman of the Council of Europe Committee on Sustainable Development and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Culture Diversity and Heritage. He is also Member of the ad-­‐hoc committee on Climate Change. Addressed the Parliamentary Assembly against abortion and euthanasia, and campaigned to stop domestic violence against women and children. Chaired international conferences on Water Sustainability and on Conventions on International Waters. He was also commissioned to report on ‘Preservation of the Environment in the Mediterranean’, and on the Organistation for Economic , Co-­‐operation and Development (OECD). He served as Head of Maltese Delegation to the WEU and in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and appointed also to lead several Maltese Parliamentary delegations. Biography, CV: Graduated in History and Doctor of Art History. In 1995 she began her career in Politics, being responsible for Education and Culture in the Region of Murcia. She became a Member of the European Parliament in 1999. Regarding her parliamentary activity, her participation in research has always been outstanding. Between 1999-­‐ 2004, she was a Member of the Culture and Education Committee and subsequently became a full Member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety as well as Substitute of the Industry, Research and Energy Committee. In the Political field, it is worth noting among other items the report "European Parliament Resolution on Universities and Higher Education in the European Learning Area" (2000). From 1995 until 1999 she was the Autonomic Minister of Culture in the Region of Murcia. It is worth highlighting the educational transfers, the creation of the Seneca Foundation for the Research coordination in Murcia as well as the Creation of the Cartagena Polytechnic University, the Coordination University Law, San Juan de Dios Museum, the regeneration of the Fine Arts Museums in Murcia and the program for restoring the old Roman Theatre in Cartagena. Her main research focuses on History of the Architecture and Town Planning; Power, economy and architecture; Preserving Cultural Heritage and Natural Landscape.
