BIOGRAPHICAL AND SUBJECT SW1MARY:
Germain Seligman (1893-1978) -'lias a French Captain assigned to the
Ameri can Expediti onary Force in 1917. He served as Li ason Offi cer
to the First American Division until the end of the war. Following the
war , he returned to the fami ly art gallery Jacques 5e1i gman et Fil s
given charge of the IJe~J York office. In 1923, he became president of
the fi rm. He spent hi s 1He shuttl i ng between Pari s and New York
retaining an active interest in art and national affairs of both nations.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION AND ARRANGEMENT:
There are several series' within the papers. First there are Seligman's
personal papers: correspondence, military records, copies of family
photographs, and arti cl es wri t ten by Se1i gman. IJext there are mil itary
orders from ~iorld liar II. Third there are military reports and instruction
books. Last, is a folder of World War II era clippings from the U. S. press.
Separated from the collection 'lias a larger collection of World War I
maps and five photographs.
