Staff are continuing to engage in professional learning to focus on teaching and learning strategies to improve student outcomes.
This has recently included a presentation by Dr Misty Adoniou. Dr Adoniou is an Associate Professor in Language Literacy and
TESL at the University of Canberra. She recently presented internationally and has gained numerous teaching awards. She
provided deep insights to our staff on the power of focusing on literacy skill development for all ages. It is hoped Dr Adoniou can
continue to support the whole school focus on literacy over the coming years.
SRC elections for the 2017 student body occurred last week for Year 10. I am pleased to announce the 2017 Year 10 Student
Leadership team. In alphabetical order they are :Ivan Barouline, Lara Keleher, Sam Lee, Yvette Marris ,Seraphina Nicholls ,Ralph
Nueangrit and Tim Rock. Planning has begun for Year 7, 8, 9 elections in Term 1 next year. Thank you to Peter Hobbs for
conducting the election following formal election protocols and to Mary De Poorter for facilitating the nomination process.
The school year is drawing to an end. As we farewell most of our Year 10 students next week staff are in the midst of finalising
assessment and preparing reports. The final day for Year 10 students is Friday 2nd December, except for EFS year 10 students
who have mock exams on the 8th and 9th of December. The final day for all other students is Friday 16th December.
Reports for Primary students will be distributed on Thursday afternoon 15th December. Secondary students will receive reports
on Tuesday 13th December. They will also be posted on Managebac. Please note that Year 9 (2nde) French Stream reports were
distributed in week 7. Year 10 EFS students have already received reports. For Year 6,7 and 8 EFS students, reports will be
published on Pronote a few weeks after each Conseil de classe (class councils). If students are not in attendance to collect
reports, they will remain at the front office for collection after the hand out dates. If families would like them posted out please
provide a stamped self addressed envelop at the school front office. They will then be posted once finalised. If these are to be
sent to an overseas address please ensure the appropriate international postage is on the envelope.
On Friday 2 December, there will be a special breakfast for Year 10 students and
their families, the annual Year 10 Concert and finish with a BBQ at Manuka Pool. The
Year 10 Graduation Ceremony is on Tuesday 6th December in the School Hall from
9am – 11.00. The Year 10 formal is also on Tuesday 6th December with arrivals
starting at 6 pm with all students to be picked up at 10.45 pm from the Arboretum.

Safety of students, parents and staff continues to be an extremely high priority for
us. When using the Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zones, please note that these are not
parking areas and that traffic should flow smoothly and safely through those zones.
Please observe the signs in the Staff Car Park near the School Hall. This area is for
staff parking only and should not be used as a drop-off area. All primary children are
to enter the school grounds through the primary gates and all secondary students
through the secondary side of the school. As always, teachers will be on duty for 30
minutes before classes begin each day. This is 8.30am for Primary and 8.15am for Secondary. All gates will be locked at 9am, so
parents are asked to deliver their children who are late to school through the main front door. Gates will reopen at 3.15pm. Can
you also please talk to your student about their usage of pedestrian crossings. I have consistently observed secondary students
stepping on to pedestrian crossings without looking to see if the cars or buses have seen them and stopped. This is particularly
evident straight after school at the pedestrian crossing near the secondary gymnasium. Thank you for supporting us in keeping
all members of our school community safe.

Je tiens à féliciter un de nos membres du personnel pour avoir obtenu le Prix d'Excellence en leadership de l'ACEL. Emmanuel
Texier, Proviseur, a reçu ce prix lors de la remise des prix ACEL le 23 novembre. Sa nomination célèbre son leadership
hautement respecté et innovant dans la promotion de l'excellence en pédagogie ainsi que dans l’encadrement et la promotion de
l'éducation bilingue dans l'ACT et à l'échelle nationale. Félicitations Emmanuel. La communauté scolaire est très fière de vos
réalisations et ravie de vous voir reconnu pour votre travail et votre dévouement.
Le personnel continue à s'investir dans la formation professionnelle en se concentrant sur les stratégies d'enseignement et
d'apprentissage afin d’améliorer les résultats des élèves. Ils ont pu récemment assister à une conférence du Dr Misty Adoniou.
Misty est professeure agrégée de langue et TESL à l'Université de Canberra. Elle a récemment donné des conférences à
l'étranger et a gagné de nombreux prix d'enseignement. Elle a fourni à notre personnel un aperçu approfondi sur l’importance du
développement des compétences du langage pour tous les niveaux. Nous espérons que Misty continuera à apporter son soutien
à notre école sur le volet de l’enseignement de la langue au cours des prochaines années.
La sélection des élèves délégués pour l’année scolaire 2017 a eu lieu la semaine dernière pour le niveau Première. J’ai le plaisir
de vous dévoiler notre équipe d’élèves délégués 2017 pour le niveau Première : Ivan Barouline, Lara Keleher, Sam Lee, Yvette
Marris ,Seraphina Nicholls ,Ralph Nueangrit et Tim Rock. L’organisation des élections pour les autres niveaux se fera au cours du
premier trimestre 2017. Je tiens à remercier Peter Hobbs pour avoir organisé ces élections en suivant à la lettre le protocole
établi ainsi que Mary De Poorter pour avoir facilité le processus des nominations.
La fin de l’année scolaire approche. C’est le moment de dire au revoir à nos élèves de Première. La semaine prochaine, les
enseignants donneront leurs dernières évaluations et rédigeront les bulletins scolaires. Le dernier jour de classe pour les élèves
de Première est le vendredi 2 décembre, à l’exception des élèves du courant français qui passeront leur examen blanc du
baccalauréat les 8 et 9 décembre prochains. Le dernier jour de classe pour tous les autres élèves est le vendredi 16 décembre.
Les bulletins scolaires des élèves du Primaire seront distribués le jeudi 15 décembre dans l’après-midi. Les bulletins seront remis
aux élèves du Secondaire le mardi 13 décembre, ils seront également disponibles sur ManageBac. Veuillez noter que les bulletins
des élèves de Seconde du courant français ont été distribués en semaine 7. Les élèves de Première du courant français ont,
quant à eux, déjà reçu leur bulletin. Pour les classes de Sixième, Cinquième et Quatrième du courant français, les bulletins sont
disponibles sur Pronote quelques semaines après le conseil de classe. En cas d’absence le jour de remise des bulletins, ceux-ci

seront déposés au secrétariat de l’école où vous pourrez les récupérer. Si vous souhaitez un envoi par la poste, nous vous
remercions de bien vouloir fournir au secrétariat de l’école une enveloppe timbrée et libellée à vos noms et adresse. Pour un
envoi vers l’étranger, nous vous invitons à vérifier que l’affranchissement est suffisant.
Le vendredi 2 décembre, il y aura un petit déjeuner organisé pour les élèves de Première et leur famille, le concert des élèves de
Première puis un barbecue à la piscine de Manuka. La cérémonie de remise des diplômes de fin d’année aura lieu le mardi 6
décembre dans le Hall de l’école de 9h00 à 11h00. Le Bal des élèves de Première aura également lieu le mardi 6 décembre, de
18h00 à 22h45 à l’Arboretum de Canberra.
La sécurité de nos élèves, des parents et du personnel est notre toute première priorité. Nous vous rappelons que le déposeminute n’est pas une zone de stationnement et que la circulation doit s’y faire de façon fluide et en toute sécurité. De même, des
panneaux situés à l’entrée du parking du personnel précise bien qu’il n’est pas un dépose-minute et qu’il est réservé
exclusivement au personnel de l’établissement. Tous les élèves du Primaire doivent entrer par la grille du Primaire et les élèves
du Secondaire par l’entrée réservée aux élèves du Secondaire. Les enseignants assurent une surveillance 30mn avant le début
des cours, c’est-à-dire 8h30 pour le Primaire et 8h15 pour le Secondaire. Toutes les grilles ferment à 9h00. Les enfants
retardataires doivent par conséquent entrer par l’entrée principale de l’école. Les grilles rouvrent à 15h15. Nous vous remercions
également de rappeler à votre enfant le bon usage des passages piétons. Nous voyons régulièrement des élèves du Secondaire
s’engager sur le passage piéton sans même regarder si les voitures ou autocars les ont vus traverser. Ceci est particulièrement
le cas pour le passage piéton qui se situe juste à la sortie du gymnase de l’école. Nous vous remercions de nous aider à garder
tous les membres de notre communauté scolaire en sécurité.

ces événements. Votre participation montre à nos élèves que nous travaillons tous main dans la main.

Dr Aimola Davies and Dr Cherbuin from the Australian National University sincerely thank Telopea Park School community for its
participation in their current study on bilingualism. As they are keen to collect additional data they are launching a second

The end of the school year is fast approaching. Students and teachers are currently busy working on their end of year projects
and preparing students for their transition into 2017 classes.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind those families planning to move overseas or interstate for the 2017 school year
to notify the school of their 2017 intentions.

Kindergarten Orientation Days for students beginning at Telopea Park School in 2017 have been under way this week. Students
have had the opportunity to visit their classrooms, meet their teachers and familiarise themselves with the school environment.

Arriving and Departing from School
Parents and carers are reminded that student supervision commences at 8.30am when the primary and kindergarten gates are
unlocked. If you require supervision before 8.30am, please book your child into the Before School Care Program. Last week we
were required to evacuate the building at 8.20am and noted that a considerable number of students were already onsite.
Concern has also recently been expressed by the After School Care Staff that some students are still waiting to be collected
when the quad gate is locked at 3.45pm, 30 minutes after the final bell. Please notify the school if you know that you will be
unable to collect your child on time so that the necessary arrangements can be made.

K-2 Concert
Kindergarten, year1 and year 2 students have been enthusiastically rehearsing for
the K-2 Concert which will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday the 1 st of December
in the Francophonie Hall. Parents and carers are invited to attend and seating will
commence from 10:45 am. Students are reminded to bring their costumes to school
where they will be stored in preparation for dress rehearsals and the day of the
concert. Thank you to Susan Cribb and the K-2 teachers for their efforts in
organising this event.
Bandstravaganza
On Tuesday evening 15th November, the y6 band performed in the finale concert of
their 2-year band program with the Instrumental Music Program (IMP). It was a
memorable experience to be part of a big band sound comprising of woodwind and
brass instruments from five combined schools. The evening at Llewelyn Hall is
always a sell-out. Thank you to all the families in y6 for the two-year support of this valuable enrichment program.
NOUVELLES DU PRIMAIRE
La fin de l’année approche à grands pas. Les élèves et les enseignants sont actuellement bien occupés à travailler sur les projets
de fin d’année et à préparer les élèves à la rentrée scolaire 2017.
Nous souhaitons, à cette occasion, rappeler aux familles qui déménageraient à l’étranger ou dans un autre état au cours de
l’année scolaire 2017 de bien vouloir prévenir l’école.
Journées d’intégration en Maternelle
Cette semaine ont eu lieu les journées d’intégration en Grande Section de Maternelle pour les élèves rejoignant le lycée francoaustralien à la rentrée 2017. Les élèves ont pu visiter leur classe, rencontrer leur enseignante et se familiariser avec
l’environnement de l’école. Nous avons été ravis de voir tant d’élèves impatients et nous sommes heureux de les accueillir à la
rentrée prochaine.

Horaires de l’école
Nous rappelons aux parents et tuteurs que la surveillance des élèves commence à 8h30 lorsque les grilles de Maternelle et du
Primaire sont ouvertes. Si vous souhaitez déposer votre enfant avant 8h30, vous devrez l’inscrire à la garderie du matin. La
semaine dernière, nous avons dû évacuer les bâtiments à 8h20 et avons remarqué qu’un nombre important d’élèves étaient déjà
dans la cour.
Le personnel de la garderie du soir nous a également alertés sur le fait que certains enfants attendaient encore leurs parents une
fois la grille fermée à 15h45, c’est-à-dire 30 minutes après la sonnerie de fin des cours. Nous vous invitons à prévenir l’école si
vous savez que vous ne pourrez récupérer votre enfant à l’heure afin que nous puissions organiser une solution.
Concert des classes de Maternelle à CE1
Les élèves de Grande Section de Maternelle, CP et CE1 répètent avec enthousiasme pour leur concert qui aura lieu le jeudi 1 er
décembre à 11h00 dans le Hall de la Francophonie. Parents et tuteurs y sont conviés et les portes du Hall ouvriront à partir de
10h45. Nous rappelons aux élèves d’apporter leur costume à l’école où ils seront
stockés jusqu’à la répétition générale et le concert. Un grand merci à Susan Cribb
et aux enseignants pour l’organisation de cet événement.
Bandstravaganza
Mardi 15 novembre dernier, l’orchestre des Sixièmes a fait son dernier concert,
clôturant ainsi deux années de participation au programme de musique
instrumentale (IMP). Quelle expérience inoubliable de faire partie d’un grand
orchestre comprenant les instruments à vent et à cuivre de cinq écoles
regroupées. Les soirées concert de Llewelyn Hall se font toujours à guichet fermé.
Un grand merci aux familles de nos élèves de Sixième pour avoir soutenu ce
programme d’enrichissement inestimable ces deux dernières années.

Playground Subcommittee Update
Parkour Playground Progress!
What wonderful progress we have seen over the past two weeks in the primary playground! Our beautiful Telopea red and blue
coloured parkour equipment has been steadily installed – from the ground preparation to the posts and climbing frames being
constructed, we have seen a lot of exciting activity. Keep an eye out – the soft fall is still to come.
The Playground subcommittee is very pleased to see all the team’s hard work come to fruition. We would like to thank all of the
volunteers, staff, suppliers and government representatives who contributed to making this installation a reality. In particular,
we would like to thank Manon Gosselin for her endless time, patience and effort. We are sure the kids will love it for many years
to come!
What’s next for the playground subcommittee?
Next year, the playground subcommittee is keen to progress our efforts in the secondary hang out area. As you are aware, we
won a great landscape design as part of the My Park Rules competition earlier in the year. If you are keen to get involved with

CANBERRA’S FIRST ASTRONOMICAL TEACHING OBSERVATORY OPEN FOR STUDENTS
After three years of planning and construction, Canberra’s first astronomical teaching observatory, MSATT, is now available for
student use. Comprising of a high end 30cm robotic telescope housed in a dome at Mount Stromlo Observatory, plus a range of
smaller telescopes, the facility is designed for student-centred research projects in astronomy. MSATT has been designed so that
no experience with astronomy or telescopes is necessary: any student from the ACT region is welcome to apply for a project at
MSATT.
The main focus for MSATT will be hosting student science projects. By gathering their own data, students complete research
projects in astronomy. Possible projects include measuring the mass of Jupiter, investigating fundamental properties of variable
stars, learning about photometry and spectroscopy for galactic and extragalactic studies. Each project is tailored to the needs
and abilities of the individual student. In return, the student produces a referenced and refereed report on their findings.
Students from Year 9 to 12 are welcome to apply.
MSATT is also available for one-off sessions called Field Nights, catering for small groups up to ten people. Whether it’s a special
interest school science group (Year 8 or older), individual families or community groups wanting to learn more about astronomy,
MSATT is open for bookings.
There is no cost involved in any MSATT activities.
