B1 : Les Mods étaient habillés de manière très soignée, avec des coupes ajustées. Ils étaient très élégants.
Ils conduisaient des scooters/vespa.
Les Rockers portaient des vestes en cuir, et conduisaient de vraies motos.
La rue à Londres qui lançait la mode était Carnaby Street.
Il y a avait des rivalités/batailles entre les deux groupes.
Beaucoup de groupes célébres venaient s’habiller à Carnaby Street, les Beatles, les Rolling Stones…
B2 : Carnaby Street a changé depuis les années 60 mais on peut encore retrouver certaines boutiques
d’origine.
Selon la femme, la musique influence vraiment la mode. C’est quelque chose de très britannique.
Le premier magasin, Merc, doit être le dernier magasin qui était là à l’origine, mais il a évolué avec le
temps.
A l’origine, Ben Sherman était un magasin de chemises à col boutonné.
« The music scene I think really influences fashion. That’s always been a British thing. It’s an English
gent but it’s a rock ‘n’ roll feel.” (blond woman)

First man: “Merc started in 1967, it’s probably the only shop down in Carnaby street still original, still
moving with the time … It’s a proper Mod shop, you know, that’s what Carnaby street was, back in the
1960s. You go from the Beatles to Stones, they dressed in sleek … stuff. That was the Mod style.”
Other man (Ben Sherman shop): “We were originally a shirt, button-down shirt company in the sixties,
associated with the Mod, the music, the rock ‘n’ roll…”
Woman “What is the difference between the two?”
First man. “In the 1960s you had this kind of fashion change, the Mods and the Rockers. The Mods
were, like, sleek, slim, they drove scooters.”
2nd man “A Mod is traditionally know as wearing slim fit, skinny ties; the Rocker, more like a biker
jacket, the BSA (a moto) as opposed to the vespa scooter.
First man “They were like the motorcycle really, the leather jacket. There was always feuds between
them. They’re slowly moving on now, with the Indie rock bands. They were in Merc stuff because it’s
all very sleek and very slim.”
2nd man: “They were the likes of Fu-fighters, The Streets, The Libertines, The Kooks, The Arctic
Monkeys,
