Say "NO" to Bullying!
For school-age children, the bus ride to and from school each day should be a
pleasant experience... However, Bullying on the bus does spoil the enjoyment of the
ride.
In order to be consistent with what children are learning in school, the
Transportation Services of Riverside School Board has linked its School Bus Safety
Programs with the Board's priorities of Language, Special Needs and Health and
Safety. Our aim is to help children understand the importance of respecting others
while staying seated, talking quietly and listening to the driver's instructions, when
riding the school bus.
Bullying on the bus jeopardizes SAFETY... It interferes with the driver's
concentration, and THAT causes accidents... Bullying must stop. Say "NO" to
Bullying!
The school bus is an extension of the school. Therefore, it is important that the
same rules that are applied and respected at school are consistent with those on the
bus!
We hope that this prevention initiative will make our students more aware of the
problem and prepare them to better deal with BULLYING!

Director General’s Message
The vision of Riverside School Board is to engage students, staff and the community
as educational partners. We are cultivating life long-learners and empowering them
to be responsible, contributing members of society, to applying their knowledge in order
to adapt to a diverse and ever-changing world.
Through the School Bus Safety Program, Say "NO" to Bullying is a multi-targeted
initiative approach and it will remind all our educational partners that bullying of
any nature is detrimental to the development of well-balanced individuals. It is the
responsibility of the entire community to eradicate bullying by ensuring the
development of a caring and supportive populace as well as by developing social
competence.
In this regard, any report of bullying will be taken seriously and dealt with
accordingly. In addition, the bully will be offered services to modify his/her
behaviour.
It is imperative that our students develop pro-social skills. In order to achieve our
mission, adults in the community will serve as models for social and emotional
learning and a supportive climate will be created. Help keep our school busses
safe and bully free!

An Anti-Bullying Awareness Program
The Transportation Services of Riverside School Board is proud to present Say "NO"
to Bullying an Anti-Bullying Awareness Program. Our intent is to implement the
School Board's reform oriented priorities of: Literacy, Special Needs and Health and
Safety, through our School Bus Safety Programs.
We have all been bullied at one time or another. We know that the results can be
humiliating and harmful. Not only is the bully wrong, those who participate are as
just as hurtful and so are those that do nothing about it!
We are convinced that this innovative approach to school bus safety will help
passengers better understand the realities of their environment and the need to
always respect others. Bullying is wrong... Say "NO" to Bullying!

We understand that bullying on the bus, may result in the following disciplinary action:
1st Offence:
A letter home to be signed by the parent/guardian.
2nd Offence:
A 5-day suspension of transportation privileges and a
meeting with the authorities to determine conditions for the
resumption of service. The parent/guardian is
responsible for child's transportation during that
period.
3rd Offence:
Indefinite suspension from the bus indefinitely. The
parent/guardian is responsible for child's transportation
during that period.
The school bus is considered to be an extension of the school. All school rules, School Board rule,
Transportation Policy (Procedural Guidelines) and School Bus Safety Rules apply while students are
being transported (this includes field trips).
School bus transportation is a privilege and not a right!

Anti-Bullying Awareness Campaign
Say "NO" to Bullying!
This Anti-Bullying Campaign is presented by the Transportation Services of
Riverside School Board and has been developed in association with the School
Board’spriorities. Our intention is to bridge our reform-oriented priorities through
our School Bus Safety Program, and to sensitize the general public to the negative
outcome bullying has on children. Bullying is everywhere. If we don't acknowledge it,
we inadvertently support it. If we don't address the problem, we know it will get worse.
To achieve our goal of informing the community, we propose that students, school staff,
day-care staff, volunteers and school bus operators/drivers sign a contract of
"participation" to guarantee that the Anti-Bullying Campaign is in effect at all times.
Bullying is wrong... Say "NO" to Bullying!
All participants must understand and agree that: Not only is the bully guilty, so are
those who do nothing about it! Bullying is intimidating and the results can be
devastating. Whoever said, "Don't run from your problems!" never had to face a
bully. Bullies don't discriminate... Anyone can be a target!
The objective of this Anti-Bullying Campaign is to reinforce the importance of
respecting others regardless of their background, and to help reduce negative
incidents while improving passenger behaviour on the school bus.
Students attending Kindergarten to Grade 6, who consistently demonstrate exemplary
behaviour while riding the school bus, will be rewarded through our
Certificate of Appreciation Program. Rewards will include a Certificate of Merit and
various school bus safety-related items.
