A Second Edition Filled with Innovation and Surprises! The highly anticipated second edition of the MONDIAL de la BIERE STRASBOURG EUROPE will be filled with flavors and pay tribute to Beer and Brewers! CoProducers STRASBOURG EVENEMENT and the MONDIAL de la BIERE of MONTREAL combine their efforts to make of this festival a European reference in the brewing world! New Schedules: First Innovation! The schedules of the MONDIAL de la BIERE STRASBOURG EUROPE have been revamped to offer 2 LATE NIGHTS of discoveries and tastings! New Schedules: - Friday, October 22nd, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. - Saturday, October 23rd, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. - Sunday, October 24th, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The New CORPORATION OF ALSACE CRAFT BREWERS! Created after their first participation to last year’s MONDIAL de la BIÈRE of STRASBOURG – the MONDIAL wanting to welcome from the smallest to the biggest Alsatian Brewery – the Corporation des ARTISANS BRASSEURS d’ALSACE was instated by the Chambre des Métiers d’Alsace. The Chambre des Métiers d’Alsace was mentor and host of their first union in 2009. Today, eight totally independent breweries, hostels or cafés-brasseries* (brewpubs) form this corporation. - Brasserie STÖRIG in Strasbourg (67) Brasserie Les BRASSEURS * Brasserie La LANTERNE * Brasserie d’UBERACH in Uberach Brasserie LAUTH in Scharrachbergheim Brasserie de LOBSANN in Lobsann Brasserie BURG (Brewer’s Workshop and Vineyard) in Weyersheim Brasserie SAALOISE in Saales Brasserie SAINT ALPHONSE in Vogelgrun (68) 6 This new corporation, under the presidency of outstanding Brewmaster Albert GASS, uses an Alsatian historical logo as well as a common glass created by Rastal. All members must be based in the Alsace region; where brewing beer is as honorable as this corporation: thriving to represent tradition and authenticity. “Together we stand, divided we fall”. Alsatian Brewers have perfectly understood the meaning of this saying. Since, they’ve made more public appearances before their triumphant return to the Mondial de la bière; from the Fête des Récoltes in Colmar, to the European Fair in Strasbourg. Full and Complete Support! The Mondial de la bière acts as the beer control tower, with the help and support of the official regional organizations: la Communauté Urbaine de Strasbourg, le Conseil Général du Bas-Rhin, le Conseil Régional d'Alsace and le Comité Régional du Tourisme. An invitation to a trip around the World, the Mondial pays tribute to Air France (Global Meeting) and the Hilton Group for their indispensable contribution. The Mondial seduces by its originality as brought forth by the Press such as: Bière Magazine, Il Mondo della Birra, Birra & Sound, Ale Street News, The Belgian Beer Routes, without forgetting the dynamic Beer Web sites of Saveur Bière, Boulevard des Productions and regional broadcasters like: DNA, l’Alsace, Radio Dreyeckland, Alsace 20 T.V. and France 3 Alsace (Rund'Um program). Sponsors and partners join the Mondial with enthusiasm and dedication: master glassmaker Rastal, les Malteries Soufflet, les tirages électroniques Walla, Etic, les sous-bocks Hexagone, les fûts Maisonneuve, Air France Cargo and Kanata, the Coopérative Agricole des Houblonniers d’Alsace (Cophoudal) and la Chambre d’Agriculture d’Alsace, les bretzels Ancel (Oetker Group), the Brasseurs de l’Abreuvoir, Thierry MULHAUPT Chocolate Maker, le fromager Caseus, l’association alsacienne de collectionneurs Brassicol’ and le Groupe FHB (Rafiot). MONDIAL de la BIERE of STRASBOURG 2010 : A Colorful Selection of Flavors! Festival of authentic and original product tasting, the MONDIAL de la BIERE wants to be the unavoidable craft brewing event! Enlightened beer lovers, neophytes in quest of gustatory initiation, inventive restaurant and adventurous bar owners or professionals interested by the attractiveness generated by these tasty liquids, the rendezvous is set from October 22nd to 24th of 2010, at the Wacken Exhibition Park in Strasbourg; Europe’s Capital! Drawn by Alsatian Beers, the different beers exhibited at the MONDIAL of Strasbourg originate from the far regions of the world. This varied selection offers visitors a tasty trip around the brewing world. The French open the bal with regional products from Alsace (beers made with saffron, peppercorn, crémant, cassis, cranberries, etc.), Amer Bière Sommer a great combination to beer, Brittany with Britt and, the Rhônes-Alpes Region and renowned breweries as Bourganel, Mont-Blanc, and others coming from the entire handcrafting territory. National breweries are following the current trend and will offer visitors many surprises like: berries, flowers, blackberries, blueberries, sloe, hibiscus, cassis or sambucus. The presence of famous brew pub 3 Brasseurs should please many with their beers and tartes flambées. 7 A premiere in Europe, the presence of Brazilian craft brewers and beers. Visitors must know that Brazil is currently in a craft brewing boom and conceals approximately 250 microbreweries. Four of them will be represented in the Alsatian brewing metropolis with 15 different beers! Don't miss the opportunity of meeting with Marcelo Carneiro Da Rocha of Colorado Brewery. Amongst other foreign pavilions, the Province of Quebec is represented by a few of the most talented emerging microbreweries and breweries such as: la Barberie, Brasseurs de Montréal, Brasserie Dunham, la Chouape, Dieu du Ciel !, Hopfenstark, Microbrasserie Charlevoix, Microbrasserie du lièvre, le Saint Bock and les Trois Mousquetaires. By its side, the Province of Ontario with a handful of wonders from Beau's All Natural Brewing Co. and the United States, represented by 19 microbreweries (70 beers) originating from 11 States such as: Samuel Adams from Boston Massachusetts and Sierra Nevada Brewery from California. Other pavilions will be most tempting by the eclectic choice of beers brought from: Italy, the 2009 revelation of the Mondial; Sweden with its comforting and nourishing beers and Denmark with their fantastic brews. Belgium, Beer paradise, will again be well represented by the Belgian Province of Luxembourg with its historic and famous breweries such as: Moorgat (Duvel, de Koninck, la Chouffe), Palm, Saint Feuillien, Brasserie des Fagnes, etc. Germany, another brewing Nation present at the festival with names that speak for themselves: Schneider Weisse, Maisel, Hirsch, Krombacher, Ayinger, l’Abbaye de Weltenburg, Hofbräu (HB), Irlbach, etc. Perfect to quench the thirst of all cautious consumers! For those eager to learn more about beer and its history, this year the MONDIAL has included an extensive beer label exposition in its program. Organized in collaboration with the Fédération Nationale des Associations et Musées Brassicoles (FNABRA), this exhibition takes more meaning with the newly added Label Contest. The “QUAI des MOUSSES”! In collaboration with the FHB Group, the administrators of the bar-restaurants Rafiot, Café Atlantico and Barco Latino, three anchored barges located along the quai des Pêcheurs and located in the heart of Strasbourg; the MONDIAL de la BIERE of STRASBOURG EUROPE inaugurates the “QUAI des MOUSSES”! From October 5th and for the duration of the festival, these festive and convivial floating temples will be the gathering point for evenings, receptions and parties for the general public. Beer lovers are invited to pursue their initiation to beer tasting on this floating embassy where great products are to be taken with moderation! The BREWERS' MARKET Like the concealed treasures of Ali Baba's cave, the Market is exclusively for craft brewers producing fewer than 1,000 hl yearly. Thanks to this Market, the MONDIAL makes it easy for craft breweries from around the world to take part in making this festival an event of class! Not to be missed, demonstrations and presentations of Piccolos breweries for homebrewing! A BLACK TASTING GLASS created by RASTAL! Out of the imagination of Mario D'Eer, the MBeer Contest Conceptor and dreamed by Jeannine MAROIS, President of the MONDIAL of Montreal and Co-Producer of the Strasbourg edition; an ideal beer tasting glass has been created. Designed and created by glassmaker RASTAL, an artist when it comes to creating glassware. Opaque and almost completely black, this glass (limited quantity and on sale only at the Boutique) will impose new dimensions to beer tasting by taking perception out of the equation and leaving beer tasters to their other senses. Judges will have to focalize on the product itself, without being influenced by color or any visual predispositions they have when normally judging beers. Making this contest a most singular one and the Strasbourg medals, evermore valorizing. A Self-Serve Boutique from Heaven! After last year's success, the Mondial shifts gear and offers a self-serve boutique. A pleasure for those looking to prolong the festivities at home or build an international beer cellar! 14 The FRENCH BEER TREK MAP – NORTHEASTERN SECTOR! The MONDIAL de la BIERE has edited a French beer trek map in different volumes. The first to hit the stands is the northeastern sector of France including the following regions: Alsace, Lorraine, Champagne-Ardenne, Franche-Comté and Bourgogne. Beer lovers and neophytes will discover the charming brewing sceneries while taking a stroll, a bike or car ride! Open to PROFESSIONALS! The presence of professionals is one of the great innovations of this second edition of the Mondial de la Bière of Strasbourg. Undoubtedly essential, their presence will have an impact on the different beers offered to the public. Thousands of “café” and bar owners, pub and discotheque managers, distributors, warehouse managers, buyers of medium and large surface stores, owners of beer stores or fine groceries will be at the event to hunt for new products. Many of the beer industry’s big names will also make the trip to evaluate the impact of such an event on the commercial and industrial segments of craft brewing. BUSINESSS COPHOUDAL / CHAMBRE d’AGRICULTURE D’ALSACE AREA New this year, a BUSINESS Area sponsored by the Coopérative des Houblonniers d’Alsace (COPHOUDAL) and the Chambre d’AGRICULTURE d’ALSACE created for clients, sponsors, partners and exhibitors of the MONDIAL. Destined to offer private business meetings, with Wi-Fi network access, this area is essential to promote new business opportunities! PRESS ROOM The Press Room is located at the heart of the exhibition hall, between the Ancel Animation Area and the exhibitors' stands. A perfect environment to mingle and chat and where draft and bottled beers will be offered. BIOGRAPHIES (Alphabetical order) BURFOR D, Mark (Unites States) Owner and Brewmaster of Blue Point Brewing Speaker and Judge Born and bred on Long Island my early notions of brewing beer were forged by what was in the family refrigerator. Chilled bottles of Becks and Bass ale were my Father’s favorite. My brother, Nick, began home-brewing in the 70’s and I was able to drink the proceedings of my enterprising older brother. I joined the Navy and was shipped to California in the early 80’s. I began home-brewing with my Navy pals in San Diego. It was then and there I developed an appetite for craft brews. California was where Anchor Brewing and an eclectic circle of micro-breweries were advancing the craft brew crusade. Naturally drawn to these new brews, my friends and I ventured up and sown the pacific Coast highway to seek out the unconventional gusto of craft beer. Our adventures were short lived as I was soon transferred to Hawaii. The island culture greatly impacted my attitude toward beer and brewing. I began to frequent the Honolulu Brewing Company and spending quality time with the brew master. I soaked it all in and learned the complexities of brewing and what it takes to produce da kine beer. I left Cobblestone to start my own brewery- Blue Point Brewing Co. That was 1998 and I haven’t looked back. Along the way I attended brewing seminars from UC Davis and Seibel Institute. I love brewing and concocting different recipes- mostly for our rapid following. Blue Point has won many World Beer Cup awards as well as numerous Great American Beer Festival awards. CONFERENCE Friday: 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. “THE FUTURE OF AMERICAN CRAFT BEER” The future of American Craft Beer. American craft beer is on a strong growth curve. We started the production in march 2007 in Roncole Verdi (PR), in november 2008 we were the first italian microbrewery awarded in an international competition (Verdi Imperial Stout gold medal at the European Beer Star 2008. In 2009, we expand our domestic and international market along with the production which is still too small respect to the demand. Actually we export in USA, Sweden, Norway, Quebec, Brazil, Denmark. In 2010 we are awarded as Best Italian Microbrewery and we got a silver at the World Beer Cup and 5 medals at the International Beer Challenge in London and we became the most awarded Italian brewery. In summer 2010 we open a second brewery in Fiorenzuola (PC), 15 km far from Roncole Verdi, wich has a brewing capacity four times our actual brewhouse in Roncole. During this years I’ve travelled around Europe and I’ve been three times in USA and one in Quebec, visiting many breweries. CONFERENCE Friday: 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. “BREWING UNDER THE REINHEITSGEBOT (GERMAN PURITY LAW) Today all alcoholic beverages get under increasing attack of the politicians as cause of alcohol based illnesses and thus costs to the health insurance. Consumers are increasingly worried about the quality of their daily food. Therefore ingredients get increasingly important. The Bavarian Purity Law of 1516, the oldest valid law in food production, is a valid answer: The historic background proves that similar questions as today were the reason for passing this law in 1516. Our family and state archives have shown clear evidence for this. By guarantying a high quality beer as reliable and safe food product, it became the most consumed food product in Bavaria for centuries and made beer a significant part of Bavarian national culture. Due to this the Bavarian citizens have defended beer quality against all attempts to lower the standards in spite of times of food shortage and resulting price increases. Today, Reinheitsgebot beers attract more and more consumers worldwide with a rich number of flavor and stile variations. 22-23-24 octobre 2010 FESTIVAL de DEGUSTATIONS 2ème Edition Parc Expo Strasbourg France Merci à nos partenaires! www.mondialbierestrasbourg.com
