The Champlain Islands are unique:
settled in the 1600’s, the Islands boast
historic villages, farms and miles of
beaches. Orchards and vineyards thrive in
the longer growing season. Sample local
cheeses, chocolates, wines, preserves and
produce at our Farmers Markets. Four
season recreational activities include
boating, biking, fishing and relaxing.
Outdoor concerts and theater abound in
summer. Apple picking and leaf-peeping are
fun in the fall, or visit in the winter for ice
fishing and lake skating. Each town offers
lakeside inns and cottages, campgrounds,
antiques and marinas.
The greater Burlington area presents a
diverse menu of opportunities for the
traveler. Burlington is a classic small city with
numerous museums, arts and entertainment
venues, and lakeside parks and beaches.
Winooski, an historic mill city, boasts
numerous brick and stone buildings reflective
of its industrial heritage and a boardwalk
along the roaring Winooski River. Essex
Junction is home to the state’s largest outdoor
cultural and performance venue. Shelburne,
Charlotte, Milton, South Burlington and
Colchester host numerous parks and natural
areas and access points to Lake Champlain
and local rivers and ponds.
Bordered by the Adirondacks and the
Green Mountains, each community
along the Byway offers social and cultural
opportunities—concerts, museums,
community plays, pancake breakfasts
and strawberry festivals. In springtime
wildflowers grow in profusion. Nearby
mountains, forests and lakes invite you
to picnic, swim, hike the trails or camp
under the stars. Golf, hiking and biking
are favorite summer pastimes; in winter,
snowy mountains and fields are perfect for
snowshoeing and skiing. The golds and red
leaves make fall foliage some of the most
spectacular in the world.

Burlington est une petite ville classique
avec ses parcs sur le lac, ses musées et
ses centres d’arts et de spectacles. Ville
historique avec ses scieries, Winooski arbore
plusieurs bâtiments en brique et en pierre
et vous offre sa promenade le long de la
rugissante rivière Winooski. Essex Junction
est l’hôte du plus important centre culturel
et lieu de spectacle extérieur de l’état du
Vermont. Shelburne, Charlotte, Milton, South
Burlington et Colchester possèdent plusieurs
