We, we dunno how long we’re gonna (be) stuck here. With no flights and nowhere to go, travelers, many with children, are sleeping on cots. Has it been hard? Um, for me it’s not so hard, but for my wife it’s very hard. Living on cookies, chips and water given to them by the airlines and going days without a shower, passengers are relying on the kindness of strangers. Does anyone want soap? Nearly every flight between the US and Europe has been cancelled since a cloud of volcanic ash blanketed the atmosphere. Of three hundred (and) thirty-seven daily transaltantic flights, two hundred (and) eighty were cancelled Friday; two hundred (and) eighty-two Saturday and today three hundred (and) ten were grounded. This is really a major disaster for the US carriers, because partly because their bread and butter, uh, routes are the transatlantic routes. An impact (is) also being felt globally. Industry analysts estimate the airlines are losing more than twohundred million dollars each day they don’t fly. For now travelers have no choice but to wait, some without a flight reservation for at least a week. Are you going to live in the airport until Sunday? Yes, I, uh, I must! And rebooking passengers is going to be a headache for the airlines. Even when the planes start flying again, there just won’t be enough seats to go around.
