LIGHT PAINTING THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY NIGHT Facilitator: Nicolas Enderlé 10 THE LABYRINTH - LE LABYRINTHE Location: in the CONVENTO Courtyard - OPENING: Thursday Night Facilitator: Joe Miguez Labyrinths have been known to the human race for over 4000 years. The archetypal design is universal with one, well defined path that leads us to the centre and back out again. The labyrinth holds the answers and we, as pilgrims or travelers, need only follow the path to reach the center, perhaps the center of the self. It is a journey into the direction of ourselves. It is encountering one's self and emerging alive and creative. The labyrinth (a metaphor, a symbol to explore) The labyrinth has one path that leads to the center and back to the exit. This path takes all the space, so there are no other paths or tracks to discover. Only one path to the center, one to the exit, no crossroads or alternatives, or magic games. The Catholic metaphor teaches you that if you see God at the center of the labyrinth, he would seem close to you however reaching him is a long and torturous journey. Indeed, as we learn from experience, when we have a project, an objective, we need times and patience to reach it. Have a good journey. The labyrinth: how to use it ? 1) Stop at the entrance, in the little circle before you. 2) Take one step back and imagine yourself placing your body beside the little circle. Ask it to wait for you patiently. 3) Step back into the little circle and take three deep breaths. At the end of the third breath, catch a question that is going through your mind at the moment. A new question, one you have never asked yourself before even if it isn’t original, something like “What will I have for dinner tonight ?”, etc. 4) Enter the labyrinth and walk to the center, listen to the suggestions the labyrinth is giving you. 5) Once you get to the center, take your time, check if the question is still the same, it may have changed, maybe even just by a detail (subject, verb, adjectives ... ) 6) With this question, visit the center, asking yourself: Who? What? Why? Where? How? When? 7) Come back by the same path and listen carefully to the answers given by the labyrinth. 8) At the exit, stop in the little circle, invite the body you left waiting to join you. 9) Thank the labyrinth and write down what seemed important to remember. 11 ENGLISH CPS PROGRAMS Cps programs offer participants a rich, 2-day experience in learning how to think and act more creatively. Programs are targeted at skill development and designed around the main stages of the Creative Problem Solving Thinking Skills Model that has been offered at CREA for the past several years with a new emphasis on learning methods and techniques from a variety of diverse creativity models and frameworks. CREATIVITY FOUNDATIONS This program is recommended for those who are unfamiliar with Creative Problem Solving (CPS) or with the deliberate practice of creativity. Participants will have an opportunity to explore and enhance their own creativity. They will gain a deeper awareness of their own preferred style of expressing creativity using the FourSight self-assessment and learn how to leverage this knowledge to work more effectively with others. We will introduce participants to the CPS Thinking Skills model and to the dynamic balance of divergent and convergent thinking that supports it. There will be an opportunity for participants to learn and practice fundamental tools and techniques that be applied to develop creative solutions to real challenges. Creativity Foundations is aimed at fostering both creative thinking and creative behavior. Participants will be able to: - Assess their individual thinking style preferences for working within the creative process. - Understand the Creative Problem Solving: Thinking Skills model and how it can be used to overcome creative challenges;Experience the dynamic balance of divergent and convergent thinking and how to use it to produce creative results;- Identify personal characteristics, behaviors and attitudes that can promote and inhibit creativity. Facilitators: Ismet Mamnoon - Matteo Catullo CLARIFYING CREATIVE CHALLENGES This is an advanced, in-depth exploration of one of the most critical stages of Creative Problem Solving: Clarification. Many efforts to apply creative thinking fail because the problem to be solved was poorly defined. Participants will focus on the importance of accurately assessing a situation and clarifying the challenge for which a creative solution is desired, before beginning to explore ideas or move to action. We will discuss Diagnostic Thinking and the dual functions of gathering and examining data and making decisions regarding managing the creative process. Participants will also focus on Visionary and Strategic Thinking in this stage of CPS and examine their relationship to Diagnostic Thinking. This program will emphasize the learning and practice of tools to develop these creative thinking skills. Creativity Foundations (or a basic understanding of CPS) is a requirement for this program. Participants will be able to: Describe the important role of Diagnostic Thinking throughout the Creative Problem Solving process; - Discuss Visionary and Strategic Thinking in the Clarification Stage of the CPS Thinking Skills model and the relationship to Diagnostic Thinking; - Learn and apply tools for developing Diagnostic, Visionary and Strategic Thinking; Discuss the key role of the facilitator in managing the creative process during the Clarification Stage. Facilitators: Kristen Peterson - Sarah Thurber 12 ENGLISH CPS PROGRAMS GENERATING IDEAS This advanced program will focus on the generation and refinement of creative ideas and will explore a key stage of Creative Problem Solving: Transformation. Participants will examine how to move from a creative challenge to producing novel ideas that can be crafted into useful solutions. We will discuss Ideational Thinking and examine how it can be used to encourage flexibility of thought and the production of original ideas. Participants will also focus on Evaluative Thinking in this stage of CPS and look at how to assess and develop ideas into workable solutions. This program will emphasize the learning and practice of tools to develop these creative thinking skills. Creativity Foundations (or a basic understanding of CPS) is a requirement for this program. Participants will be able to: - Describe the importance of Ideational Thinking in Creative Problem Solving and the importance of playfulness as an attitude to promote free thinking and new perspectives; - Discuss Ideational and Evaluative Thinking in the Transformation Stage of the CPS Thinking Skills model and the relationship to Diagnostic Thinking; - Learn and apply tools for developing Ideational and Evaluative Thinking; - Discuss the key role of the facilitator in managing the creative process during the Transformation Stage. Facilitators: Erik op ten Berg - Mathilde Sarré-Charrier FOURSIGHT® CERTIFICATION The FourSight® Thinking Profile is an assessment that serves as a launch pad for innovation in teams and organizations. In this session participants will: Learn to leverage people’s preferences to enhance creative collaboration Evaluate how a team’s profile impacts their approach to challenges Increase their ability to communicate and problem solve effectively with people who have other preferences Enhance their effectiveness in building high performance teams Facilitators: Blair Miller - Gerard Puccio 13 PROGRAMMES CPS FRANÇAIS Les Programmes CPS offrent aux participants une expérience de 2 jours riche en apprentissage quant à comment penser et agir de façon plus créative. Facilitateurs : Guillemette Goglio - Sylvain Matte 15 ENGLISH IMMERSION PROGRAMS This is a series of one-day workshops that will offer an immersive learning experience focusing on emerging trends and best practices in the field of applied creativity. These workshops are designed and facilitated by experienced professionals based on current research and practical application. A choice of three different workshops will be offered each day on Thursday and Friday in both English and in French. Workshops are designed to compliment each other so that participants can customize their experience to meet individual learning objectives and interests. Participants are asked to pre-register. THURSDAY APRIL 16TH EXPLORING DIGITAL CREATIVITY TOOLS In this one-day workshop we will explore creative problem solving using a range of different digital tools designed for enhancing your creativity. The workshop will focus specifically on clarification and ideation. We will introduce you to a number of digital creativity tools and apply them to creative problem solving challenges using real life problems and challenges. We’ll work with apps, sites, games, browsers and different search engines to solve problems within different creative fields and areas such as product development, communication, idea generation, innovation and facilitation. We will end the day with a digital creativity tool exchange, where all participants have the opportunity to share their favorite digital tools with the group, building a palette of digital creativity tools to strengthen creative processes. In this session participants will: Explore a variety of digital creativity tools Generate ideas and solve real life challenges using the tools Find new ways to incorporate digital tools while facilitating a creative process Facilitators: Dorte Nielsen - Luciano Boccucci POLARITY THINKING®: POWER UP CREATIVITY THROUGH PARADOX Inhale and exhale, yin and yang, rest and activity, diverge and converge – we live in the midst of interdependent elements, paradoxes or polarities. How can a conscious approach to polarities lead to more successful outcomes in applied creativity and in sustaining creative environments? In this hands-on workshop you will learn Johnson’s Polarity Thinking approach, a powerful means of seeking the wisdom in resistance, distinguishing between problems to solve and polarities to leverage, and using seemingly contradictory views to enhance the work of creativity practitioners. You will come away with a practical and profound tool for your personal and professional application. In this session participants will: Build awareness of what polarities are, distinguish them from problems to solve, and construct your own list of the most important polarities you are addressing; Learn the fundamentals of the energy system behind interdependent factors like stability and change, team and individual, and head and heart; Experience an in-depth application of one or more of the polarities of creative environment as interpreted from Goran Ekval’s seminal work Facilitators: Clare Dus - Liz Monroe-Cook IMPROVISATIONAL THEATER 16 The guidelines for improv play map onto Alex Osborn’s CPS divergent guidelines, overlapping so strongly that improv tools and techniques are wonderful warm-ups for creative sessions, putting mind and body in a stance that enhances creativity. Participants will explore the principals of improvisational theater and their relation to the principles of creativity; play improv games that are warm-ups for groups engaging in creative sessions, particularly geared toward raising awareness about status and hierarchy and their impact on creativity. Keith Johnstone theorized that every human interaction has a status component to it, and that adopting status made improv theater more real. The reverse is also true; recognizing the status transaction in every interaction helps us understand and shape real life. The session will borrow from the rich toolkit of improvisational theater to explore status and its role in effective facilitation. In this session participants will: Understand how improve warm-ups prepare people for creative sessions; Be able to identify status roles and how they impact every human interaction; Develop capacity to select a status that’s most useful to help a team achieve an objective; Stretch their own creative envelope through improv games; Facilitator: Lee Dunne - Tim Dunne ENGLISH IMMERSION PROGRAMS FRIDAY APRIL 17th PROTOTYPING IDEAS: A BASIC TRAINING ON LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Learn the necessary knowledge and practice on how to facilitate rapid prototyping of mental models with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® within a day! Experience this method both from the participant’s perspective and by facilitating it. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® offers unique process solutions to realize the full potential and creativity of teams. This 3D process helps teams explore ideas, create better options, uncover deeper knowledge and develop shared visions with maximum engagement. By utilizing the hand-brain connection, it stimulates ideation and activates unconscious knowledge and resources. It is based on the latest knowledge about systems thinking, brain research and strategy design. Participants can expect to be immersed in an intense day of learning that involves a dynamic switch between theory, practical implementation and a lot of reflection. In this session participants will: Explore ways to “warm up” your participants for this hands-on approach of thinking and sharing; Facilitate the rapid prototyping of ideas by applying the principles and values of this methodology; Experience the benefits and potential challenges with utilizing LEGO® as a method for facilitation Facilitators: Katrin Elster - Jens Hoffmann EMBRACE YOUR POWER OF CHOICE THROUGH MINDFULNESS You may have facilitated groups through the CPS process or assisted people in developing their creativity. So what about you? Have you taken the time for yourself? Do you feel you have choices in how to BE? How do you facilitate your inner game? What questions do you ask yourself and which path do you follow? How do you exercise your leadership? During this Immersion session we will explore all of these questions. Here are three reasons to have an interest in mindfulness. First, being in the ‘present’ helps align mind, spirit and body. Second, being curious in the ‘Here and Now’ about your thoughts, emotions, needs, body sensations and intentions, while being non-judgmental in your assessment is one way to enable you to change your game. Third, experience how this practice helps you develop your self-leadership skills and your creativity. Mindfulness is not an end but a way to be more efficient, more effective and less stressed. Being aware of the questions you ask gives you the power to make better choices. In this session participants will: Explore practices to increase awareness of what is going on in your inside and outside worlds; Enhance your ability to lead others by learning to lead yourself; and Develop the capacity to get in touch with your inner self, allowing you to connect your own dots! Facilitators: Diane Houle-Rutherford - Clara Kluk TOLERATING AMBIGUITY The human mind is, for the most part, set on being in the know. We don’t like being uncertain, our brains always seek out some recognizable pattern to make sense out of what’s happening around us. In the face of an elusive solution or a murky, messy problem, many of us are ill at ease. Yet this is exactly when we need to tolerate not knowing. This is when we need to cultivate a tolerance for ambiguity, an ability to stay in uncertainty, or stay with the question, despite the discomfort of not knowing the answer. It requires relinquishing control to make room for new and emerging connections to crystalize into a clear direction. It also means that there might be numerous ways of answering the same question, each with different but potentially positive results. In this session you’ll explore your own comfort or discomfort with ambiguity, and you’ll have a chance to think about how you might cultivate a greater tolerance for ambiguity in order to give yourself the time and space for creativity to emerge. In this session participants will: Be able to identify their own level of tolerance for ambiguity; Practice techniques for dealing with ambiguity; Develop a new level of comfort about being in the ‘I don’t know. The EXPO Workshops allow participants to customize their learning experience by choosing workshops which complement the main offerings. EXPO Workshops are offered in 3 formats: Double Expo-Day run for 180 minutes and Expo-Day run for 90 and allow participants to explore a specific area around creativity, covering some of the researc h and theory on that topic as well as providing an opportunity for experience and practice. Expo Night Workshops run for 60 minutes and are intended to be more experiential; they are designed to be highly interactive and entertaining workshops that mostly relate to artistic expression in the creative process and individual growth around creativity. Expo Day - Expo Night Workshop The final schedule with time and rooms will be available at the Conference DOUBLE EXPO DAY WORKSHOPS (3 hours) PLANNING FOR THE UNPLANNED ARNO DELHIJ In a world that is getting more complex exponentially and therefore also unpredictably we still rely on old planning methodologies. We define milestones, underlying tasks and dependencies and than we estimate the time in man-hours. This is all based on the 19th century insights from industrialisation and still works in predictable environments and processes. In creative process this approach no longer suffice and we need to change the game. Based on insights from IT development (agile and scrum) you will be guided through the underlying practices why the old game can no longer being played. Together with some interactive (group)excercises you will experience what can be done differently and why this is more reliable for planning. This highly interactive session will show you different insights based on the Cynefin-model, the use of the Fibonacci sequence and planning poker. Based on some planning games and case study you will be able after this session to plan better, much more fast and more reliable. But most of all this is a future proof approach suitable for all creativity craftmenships. During this workshop, participants will: - Obtain a radically different insight on planning (already proven within IT Development) - Gain experience with some techniques on how to quickly yet reliably plan for creativity (projects) - Plan as a group rather than individuals and have fun :-) Language: English LEVERAGING THE POWER OF INTUITION IN THE CPSTSM JANICE FRANCISCO You may know Creative Problem Solving Thinking Skills as a catalyst for balancing thinking skills and affective (emotional) skills when approaching creative problem solving. Did you know it’s also a catalyst for engaging intuition? This session explores how intuition comes into play in the Thinking Skills model and how facilitators and users alike can bring more of themselves and get even better results by striking a balance between intuition and the thinking skills when they use the Thinking Skills model. By highlighting the essence of new research and field study about the role of intuition in the Thinking Skills model, you’ll develop a new understanding of where intuition comes in to play and how facilitators and users can promote and harness the power of intuition in their practice. Working from this basis, you’ll have an opportunity to experiment with new CPS tools that deliberately foster intuitive insights and apply them to initiate an exploration into how you might use the power of intuition in your own practice of the Thinking Skills Model. As a culminating exercise participants will be invited to share key insights on how leveraging the power of intuition will help them “change the game”. Regardless of how you experience yourself as intuitive now, if you come into this session with curiosity, and an openness and acceptance of intuitive insights, you’ll leave with new tools, and immediately applicable strategies to leverage the power of intuition in your CPS practice.During this workshop, participants will: - Value the expanded role for intuition in CPSTSM - Discover 3 key strategies for leveraging intuition in your use of the CPSTSM. - Experiment with intuitive CPS tools to explore “How might I leverage the power of intuition in my CPS practice?” Language: English CHANGE THE GAME BY THE WAY OF NATURE SIMOON FRANSEN Did you ever experience this; despite visionary work, creative processes, promising concepts, decent stakeholderwork... no realization of innovation? Much effort at solving work problems groups them as system problems (e.g. facing a tight budget), process problems (e.g. results not coming in time), and interpersonal problems (e.g. getting that person off my back). There is another kind of problem, however, that determines whether or not these problems are addressed effectively. This session identifies that kind of problem, explores the impact it has on those other kinds of problems, and shows how to gain ground by shifting focus. Through discussion, individual exercises and group exercises, participants will learn tools for helping themselves and others to make work, of whatever kind and with whatever lack of support there is from others, even more need fulfilling than a vacation. The research in this area clearly demonstrates that those who have it are much better at leading others than those who don’t. Actually, recent studies suggest that CEO’s, on average, display lower levels of Emotional Intelligence (EI) than all other groups of employees in the workplace. The path to improving EI begins with self-awareness. Without it, efforts to change are built on an unstable foundation and will likely fail. One of the best practices for increasing self-awareness is through a 360°standarized assessment that allows for self-assessment along with feedback from colleagues with whom you work. The resulting profile can identify both strengths and weaknesses related to the competencies that area essential to achieving high levels of Emotional Intelligence. This workshop will describe the EI competencies based on the work of Dr. Richard Boyatzis and Dr. Daniel Goleman and examine how they can be measured by the Emotion and Social Intelligence Inventory which is the most widely used 360°assessment in use worldwide. We will also explore how these competencies can be improved through coaching and creative thinking to achieve positive and meaningful change. During this workshop, participants will: Examine Goleman’s EI model and describe the twelve competencies that are essential to achieving high levels of Emotional Intelligence; Describe the ESCI and demonstrate how it can be used to raise emotional self-awareness and to identify those competencies needing improvement; Explore ways that targeted EI competencies can be developed and discuss how creative thinking and coaching can effectively facilitate intentional positive change Language: English Supporto in Italiano READY TO MOVE? A quelles problématiques ? CHRISTOPHE BOULANGER artiste plasticien et directeur artistique graphiste en entreprise - Outre le travail artistique (peinture, sculpture), Christophe développe des interventions en entreprise pour faire s’exprimer la créativité Décathlon-Kiabi-Cultura- Auchan STEFANO BRICOLA started to show his tendency in the design field when he was a kid: he used to take scissors, fabric and needle to sew new dresses for his sister’s dolls. The training has started in the jewelry and goldsmith art, instead. The journey to the interior design has begun when he added all the experiences made in the architecture field after long studies and collaborations with various designers, always as creative, where he had the hand craft was the key of his work, always joint with alternative use of materials, drawing an object or creating a project. He also has the chance to experience the job of set designer for some troupes, deeply inspired by the Genoese soul of Luzzati and learning from him the use of paper, fabrics, cardboard and color. In those spaces, the objects, the costumes and the words came together and took life themselves. He kept a strong tied connection with art during the years, thanks to all the art exhibition constructions projects, for some major museum in Piemonte and Liguria, cooperating with some banks and foundation. Giving shape to the spaces and matter to the shape. Designing furniture , every -day objects, everything with the same strong touch valence, sensorial: color and shape with the light – natural or not – other basic element to create spaces. All those experiences, alternated during the years have melted together. I Started out in Project Management many years ago, untill I found it is not the people who are the bottleneck in projects but it is the system they are in. About 10 years ago I began to explore Agile approaches in order to make some changes to the system... and with succes. I fell in love with Agility and for quite some time now I work as an Agile Business Coach. Although IT has boosted Agility I am a firm believer that Agile is the paradigm for the next century, in all possible fields. Changing the game can also mean changing the playingfield. Cross pollination is an important catalyst for creativity so I hope to inspire you with some proven approaches from another industry which you can transfer to the domain of creativity. Currently I coach and train large international organisations with the adaption of Agile practices. Furthermore I am passionate about changing the education paradigm. 2 years ago together with two friends we wrote the eduScrum guide, applying Scrum in an educational context. A nice example of changing the game. I still volunteer for eduScrum with a focus on International liaison and public speaking. And when I am not at work I am either with my wife and our 3 dogs in the forest or engaged in the kitchen for most of the afternoon and evening preparing fine food to be enjoyed with wine for friends and family. She earns a living facilitating innovation: helping scientists and academics develop more innovative research proposals, or developing new products and brand concepts, or leading basic creative process training. She’s affiliated with several networks of creative colleagues, most often working with knowinnovation and thinkx. She’s perpetually working on a novel of creative nonfiction, she still writes hand-written letters and postcards. Her personal blog is maternal-dementia.com, and she blogs about professional topics at knowinnovation.com/blog. The thing that requires most of her creativity is parenting. You’ll see evidence of that at CREA: daughters Molly and Ruby are CREA-rats, and you might see them running about the hotel, expressing their imagination in full color.
