This new-style bilingual BULLETIN replaces
the former newsletter and will,we hope,
become a more effective forum for members of
the Natural History Committee. We want to
include, in future issues: technical notes;
a calendar of meetings;and other general
items which we hope members will send in to
the Editor.
International Committees can only function
efficiently if members are informed and they
themselves are "active". Please let us have

Naturelle de Bucarest (Roumanie) n'ayant pu venir
a La Haye pour presenter sa communication, un
resume de celle-ci a ete distribue a tous les participants. Son titre en etait: "Reflexions sur le
thematique des expositions - un bilan de 20 ans
d'activites souvent fondees sur Ia co-operation inteinternationale".
Unfortunately, Alexandre Marinescu. (Natural
History Museum, Bucarest) was unable to be
present in The Hague to present his paper.
A summary was distributed to participants;
its title was "Reflections on exhibition
themes: an account of the activities over
20 years often the result of international
co-operation".
Finally a video was presented on the natural
history museum at Perpignan by the curator,
Robert Bourgat, in the Open Forum Thursday
31 August.

The Natural History Collections working
group of the !COM-Conservation Committee
draws attention to the neglect of such
collections by contrast with fine art and
other collections. As natural science collections can provide vital information on past
and present environments, their care and
documentation are matters of urgency. The
group circulates a newsletter to all who are
interested.

The new Journal of Biological Curation is
published by the Biological Curators' Group.
It also produces three newsletters a year
and the occasional Special Report when the
need arises.

TELEMICRO AU MUSEE
summary:
Based on a prototype developed at the Natural
History Museum in Paris, remote-controlled
microscopes for use in public exhibitions
are being produced by Ets. Microcontrole.
These instruments eliminate the need for
familiarity with the basic microscope operations of focussing and specimen movement.
32 units will be installed in the "rotonde"
of the menagerie in the Jardin des Plantes
for an exhibition on microarthropods later
this year.
La vision directe au microscope donne une image
d'une limpidite irremplacable, mais un neophyte a
besoin d'un apprentissage plus ou moins long pour
manipuler avec bonheur tous les boutons .moletes
qui reglent la mise au point et le deplacement de
l'objet. Le materiel,enfin, peut etre victime des
maladresses ou de la malveillance du public.
Le "Telemicro", concu au Museum National d'Histoire
Naturelle de Paris et produit par les Ets Microcontrole - Division Nachet, apporte une solution
a ces problemes.
Un microscope, stereoscopique ou non, est abrite
sous une coupole de plastique; seuls les oculaires
emergent. Une poutre de telecommandes presente
au centre, une prise pour un casque d'ecouteurs
stethoscopiques. Des que le visiteur a appuye sur
l'un des deux boutons selecteur de langue,la lurniere
s'allume et il recoit des instructions pour utiliser
les telecommandes.
Le meuble "Telemicro" peut etre equipe d'un microscope stereoscopique a image redressee ou d'un
microscope a image inversee. Une sortie photo pour
camera video est prevue. 32 appareils equipent la
rotonde de la menagerie du Jardin des Plantes.
Programme: "Les Microarthropodes du sol et de ses
annexes": ouverture probable en avril 1990.
