Vancouver, le 19 juin 2012 | La scène du Waterfront, lors du Pacifique en chanson de cette année, fût
témoin d’une double remise de prix à Hélène Beaulieu, soit le Prix de la chanson primée pour la chanson
Haïkus d’hiver puis le prestigieux Prix Marie Woolridge qui mènera l’artiste tout droit vers le Chant’Ouest
2012. Rythmée par des airs jazzy, orchestrée de façon brillante et originale, la musique de la candidate
du Yukon a séduit les membres du jury. Accompagnée de son ukulélé, la titulaire d’une maîtrise en
guitare classique nous a charmés par ses textes à la fois simples, cocasses et profonds, laissant
apparaître tout le potentiel de l’artiste. C’est Loïg Morin qui s’est mérité le Prix du public. Son aisance sur
scène, ses textes et sa musique entraînèrent ses nombreux fans dans un rythme dynamique. Sa grande
vitalité ne l’a nullement empêché de parvenir à transporter l’assistance dans un moment fort en émotion,
par une ballade à la fois tendre et touchante.

Quant aux deux autres candidats, il va sans dire que le talent était très présent sur scène cette année. La
voix puissante de Mark Downey nous a fait vibrer au milieu du rythme de son tambour irlandais, le
Bohdran, puis de ses paroles fortes et imagées. Autant par sa prestation vocale que scénique, Kathleen
Décosse a laissé une très belle impression. Une voix subtile et vigoureuse au service d’une présence
indéniable aura captivé l’auditoire et prouvé une fois de plus que l’artiste mérite sa place sur scène.
Il serait inconvenable d’oublier les artistes invitées, tellement elles ont gravé leur talent sur le plancher du
Waterfront Theatre. Myriam Parent, lauréate du Pacifique en chanson 2011, nous a rappelé combien sa
musique était superbe, combien sa personnalité s’était encore plus affirmée. Et que dire de la prestation
de notre marraine, Tricia Foster, qui convaincu tout le monde, en seulement quelques chansons, de son
originalité et de son énergie captivante. Le public en redemande encore ! Enfin, un grand merci à tous nos
précieux partenaires sans qui l’événement ne pourrait avoir lieu. Finalement, nous tenons à remercier
chaudement le public, venu en grand nombre pour cette édition et qui d’année en année reste fidèle au
soutien de nos artistes.

2012 Winners
Vancouver, June 19 2012 | This year’s Pacifique en chanson at the Waterfront Theatre earned Hélène
Beaulieu two awards, including Best Song for her Haïkus d’hiver ("Winter Haïkus"). She also took home
the prestigious Marie Woolridge Award which will take the artist straight to Chant’Ouest 2012. The Yukon
candidate won over the jury with her original and brilliantly orchestrated jazzy rhythms. Accompanied by
her ukulele and a master’s in classical guitar, Hélène charmed us all with her lyrics: quirky, simple, yet
deeply reflective, the words let her true potential shine through.

This year’s People’s Choice Award went to Loïg Morin. The singer, at ease on stage, quickly had his
many fans tapping to the beat and singing along to his catchy lyrics. His contagious energy didn’t stop him
from showing the audience his soft side through a tender and touching ballad.

As for the other two candidates, it goes without saying that there was a lot of talent on stage this year. The
audience was thrilled by Mark Downey’s strong voice and his Irish drum, the Bohdran, along with the
powerful imagery conveyed in his lyrics. Kathleen Décosse also made a wonderful impression with her
vocal prowess as well as her undeniable stage presence. She captivated the audience with her striking
but subtle voice and proved once again that she deserved to be on stage.
It would be a shame to forget the evening’s guest performers -- but how could we? They certainly left a
mark of talent on the floor of the Waterfront Theatre. Myriam Parent, Pacifique en chanson’s 2011 winner,
reminded us how wonderful her music is and how much her personality has asserted itself. As for our
mentor, in just a few songs, Tricia Foster showed everyone her originality and captivating energy. The
audience is still asking for more! A big thank you to all of our dear sponsors who made the event a
possibility. Lastly, a warm thanks goes out to the many people who came this year and those who return
annually to show their support for our artists.
See you next year for a new edition of Pacifique en chanson!
