Ce Relevé est publié p ar la Section des Conventions Sanitaires et de la Q uarantaine* de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé, qui, en vertu
des Accords internationaux signés à New-York
le 22 juillet 1946, remplace les services épidémiologiques de l’Offlce International d’Hygiène
Publique de Paris, de la Société des Nations et
de l’UN RRA . Il résulte de la fusion de leurs
périodiques hebdom adaires e t bi-mensuels.
Les notifications relatives a u x m aladies pestilentielles sont publiées au nom de l’Offlce International d’Hygiène Publique en application des
obligations que lui confèrent les Conventions
sanitaires internationales de 1926-1938 e t 1933.
This Record is issued by th e Sanitary Conven­
tions and Q uarantine Section* of the W orld H ealth
Organization, which, in application of the International Agreements signed a t New York on 22
Ju ly 1946, replaces the epidemiological services
of the International Office of Public H ealth, Paris,
of the League of Nations and of UNRRA. I t is
the result of tb e consolidation of their respective
weekly and fortnightly periodicals.
Notifications relating to pestilential diseases
are published on behalf of the International Office
of Public H ealth in fulfilment of its obligations
under the 1926-1938 and 1933 International Sanita ry Conventions.

INFECTED VESSELS
NAVIRES INFECTÉS
Cey lan :
Colombo. — Le navire « A l M u r t e z a A l i » en
provenance de K arachi (23.XI.49), via Chittagong
(24.X II.49) et Calcutta (5.1.50) est arrivé à Colombo
le 9 janvier 1950 avec un cas de variole chez un
m embre de l’équipage. L a maladie s’est déclarée
le 5 janvier. Le m alade, un cuisinier, a été transporté
à l’hôpital des contagieux de Colombo. Les autres
membres de l'équipage ont été revaccinés. Le
navire a été désinfecté et mis en quarantaine et
devait q u itter le 16 janvier pour Chittagong dont
les autorités sanitaires ont été prévenues

Karachi (23.XI.49) via Chittagong (24.X II 49) and
Calcutta (5 1.50) arrived at Colombo on 9 Jan u ary
1950 with a case of smallpox in a m ember ot the
crew The date of onset of th e disease was
5 January. The patient, a cook, was removed to
the Infectious Diseases Hospital a t Colombo. The
other members of the crew were re-vaccinated
The ship was disinfected and quarantined and
due to depart lor Chittagong on 16 January.
The Port H ealth Authorities of Chittagong had
been informed.

POLIOMYELITIS IN CHILE*
D’après des renseignements télégraphiques reçus
le 25 janvier, 18 cas de poliomyélite aiguè (forme
paralytique) et 4 décès ont été enregistrés au Chili
du 8 au 14 janvier, contre 25 cas et 2 décès, la
semaine précédente. Au cours des 7 années
1942-1948, le chiffre médian pour la premiere
période de 4 semaines avait été de 7 cas, tandis que
le chiffre m axim um avait attein t 21 en 1943
According to telegraphic inform ation received
on 25 January, 18 acute poliomyelitis cases
(paralytic form) and 4 deaths occurred m Chile
between 8 and 14 January, agaiust 25 cases and
2 deaths during th e preceding week Foi the first
4 weeks’ period, during the 7 yeai s' period 19421948, the median figure of poliomyelitis incidence
was 7 cases, a maximum of 21 cases for that
4 weeks’ period having been reached in 1943
