Année rotarienne 2016 – 2017
Le président John F. GERM a choisi Le Rotary au
service de l'humanité comme thème présidentiel
pour 2016/2017. Compte tenu de la capacité unique
du Rotary de réunir des professionnels pour
atteindre des objectifs importants, John F. GERM
est convaincu qu'il faut faire avancer le Rotary
avec détermination et enthousiasme et mettre à
profit nos réussites passées alors que nous sommes
sur le point d'éradiquer la polio.

LE PRÉSIDENT INTERNATIONAL
LA CITATION PRÉSIDENTIELLE
Depuis sa création il y a 111 ans, le Rotary a toujours revêtu un sens
différent en fonction des sensibilités de chacun : de nouvelles amitiés, un
esprit fraternel, un sentiment d’être utile ; il donne l’occasion à ses membres
de forger des liens, de faire avancer leur carrière et de vivre des expériences
extraordinaires qu’ils n’auraient jamais connues ailleurs. Chaque semaine
dans plus de 34 000 clubs à travers le monde, les Rotariens se retrouvent
pour discuter, se détendre et partager des idées. Mais au bout du compte, ils
sont rassemblés autour du même idéal : aider autrui.
Cet altruisme est le socle sur lequel le Rotary s’est bâti et demeure toujours
aujourd’hui sa raison d’être. Je suis profondément convaincu qu’il n’existe
pas de meilleur moyen d’aider autrui qu’en étant membre du Rotary car
aucune autre organisation n’est mieux placée pour avoir un impact réel dans
le monde. Aucune autre organisation ne rassemble autant de professionnels
déterminés et compétents dans une grande variété de domaines et leur permet
de se dépasser au travers d’objectifs ambitieux. Le Rotary offre à ses
membres la capacité, le réseau et les connaissances requises pour changer le
monde. Nos seules limites sont celles que nous nous imposons.
Aujourd’hui, notre organisation se situe à un tournant. Ensemble, nous nous
sommes mis au service du monde ; demain, il attendra de nous que nous en
fassions encore plus. Faisons avancer le Rotary avec détermination et
enthousiasme afin d’être en mesure de répondre à cette attente. Alors que

nous sommes sur le point d’éradiquer la polio, mettons à profit nos réussites
passées.
Des nombreux enseignements tirés de notre combat contre la polio, l’un des
plus importants est aussi l’un des plus simples : afin que le Rotary aille de
l’avant, nous devons tous avancer dans la même direction. Une continuité
dans le club, le district et au niveau international est le seul moyen
d’atteindre notre plein potentiel. Il ne s’agit pas simplement de recruter des
nouveaux membres et de créer des nouveaux clubs. Nous ne recherchons pas
plus de membres mais plus de Rotariens engagés qui ont le potentiel de
devenir un jour des dirigeants de notre organisation.
Au crépuscule de sa vie, se penchant sur son parcours rotarien, Paul Harris a
écrit : « Les efforts individuels peuvent certainement répondre à des besoins
individuels, mais les efforts partagés doivent être avant tout dédiés au service
de l’humanité. Le pouvoir d’un effort, quand il est partagé, est sans
limite ».Il était loin d’imaginer qu’un jour, plus d’1.2 millions de Rotariens
dans le monde associeraient leurs efforts et, au travers de la Fondation
Rotary, leurs ressources, pour se consacrer ensemble au service de
l’humanité. Et qui peut imaginer ce que Paul Harris aurait attendu d’un tel
Rotary ! Honorons sa mémoire en perpétuant la tradition d’un Rotary au
service de l’humanité.

QUELQUES COMMENTAIRES SUR NOTRE CRITERE DES
QUATRE QUESTIONS
Est-ce conforme à la vérité ?
Cette question universelle nous met en garde contre la soumission à
l’opinion générale ou au « prêt-à-penser ». Elle préserve aussi de la
fascination du virtuel ou de la superficialité si présentes aujourd’hui.
Est-ce loyal de part et d’autre ?
Respectons la règle et son esprit, la parole donnée, la fidélité aux
engagements pris, qu’ils aient ou non été formalisés.
Est-ce susceptible de stimuler la bonne volonté réciproque et de
créer des réactions amicales ?
Recherchons d’abord l’accord intelligent. De plus, obtenir un
consensus est la marque des grands leaders.
Est-ce bénéfique à tous les intéressés ?
Il convient d’opérer dans un climat de confiance qui cimente la
relation durable.

Chers amies Rotariennes, chers amis Rotariens,
Comme vous avez pu le constater, certains changements sont intervenus dans
notre district. Le monde change, le Rotary se doit aussi de changer et de
s’adapter à son environnement.
Sans vous tous, rien ne sera possible ; il n’y a pas de petites actions ni de
petits clubs ; nous devons tous être solidaire et uni pour être plus fort dans
nos actions. Le district est à votre service, ses équipes, toutes issues des
clubs, ne demandent qu’à vous aider. Alors n’hésitez pas !
N’oublions pas nos valeurs Rotariennes, Osons, Avançons.
L’humanité commence au pied de notre porte. Soyons digne de notre devise
« Servir d’abord ». Agissons ouvertement pour bien faire savoir que « Le
Rotary est au service de l’Humanité ».
