Freudestrahlend kommt ein Mädchen an einem verschneiten, kalten Morgen
zu einer Gruppe spielender Kinder und behauptet, heute, am 14. Januar,
wäre Neujahrsfest. Zu diesem Anlass hat es extra eine Dose voller leckerer
Plätzchen mitgebracht. Doch die Kinder verspotten das Mädchen und wollen
nichts mit ihm, einem „Zigeunerkind“, zu tun haben. Ein heftiger Streit
entsteht, bei dem das Mädchen und ein besonders garstiger Junge unglücklicherweise auf einer Eisscholle landen und den Fluss hinuntertreiben.
Immer stärker wird die Strömung, immer kälter der Wind und niemand ist
in der Nähe, der ihnen helfen könnte. Oder steht dort etwa der Heilige
Vassil am Ufer, der große Hirte, der den Roma-Kindern zu Neujahr erscheint?
One cold and snowy morning a little girl approaches a group of children
playing and claims beaming all over her face that today, the 14th January,
it is New Year’s Day. For the same reason, she has brought a tin of delicious biscuits with her to share. But the children mock the little girl and
don’t want anything to do with her, a “gypsy kid”. A fierce fight develops,
whereby the girl and a particularly nasty boy land on an ice floe and are
swept down the river. The current gets stronger and stronger, the wind gets
colder, and there is no one around to help them. Or is that...can it really be
Saint Vassil standing on the bank, the great shepherd, who appears to

Geboren und aufgewachsen in Bulgarien. Studierte Geschichte an der Humboldt-Universität Berlin und Drehbuch/
Dramaturgie an der Filmuniversität
Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. Einige Kurzfilme, die nach ihren Drehbüchern entstanden sind, wurden auf internationalen Festivals mehrfach ausgezeichnet.
Geboren 1978 in Prag, aufgewachsen
in Sofia/Bulgarien. Studierte Animation an der HFF „Konrad Wolf“ in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Sein Diplomfilm MY
HAPPY END wurde auf zahlreichen inter­
nationalen Festivals aufgeführt und
mehrfach ausgezeichnet.
Milen Vitanov ist Mitgründer des Berliner Animationsstudios Talking Animals.
Born and brought up in Bulgaria, she studied history at the Humboldt University Berlin and screenplay/dramaturgy at the University of Film, Potsdam-Babelsberg. Some short films based on
her screenplays have received several awards at international
festivals.
