This box set is a homage to the British pop legend Morrissey - a final project by the hamburg
based designer Tobias Tietchen. The project reflects Morrisseys music achievements of the past
30 years. The different elements of this box, such as vinyl records and hair pomade, try to
capture the style-defining look and unique atmosphere of Morrissey.
The couple ‘Hector and Jeane’ accompany the viewer through the box set. They embody Morrisseys ambivalence in different situations of life - emotionally - melancholically - straightforward but still inapproachable.
The graphic language is reserved - the colours reduced. Serif typography harmonizes with
clear, abstract elements and logos. Ethel Vaughn provided the clothes worn by both of the actors (www.ethelvaughn.com).
The present work came to being in the final term at the Hamburg Kunstschule Wandsbek
(www.kw19.de). Accompanying tutors were René Fährmann, Daniel Schwind und Stefan
Kerp.
Dieses Boxset ist eine Hommage an die britische Poplegende Morrissey – eine Abschlußarbeit
des Hamburger Designers Tobias Tietchen. Diese Arbeit reflektiert Morrisseys musikalisches
Werk der letzten 30 Jahre. Die verschiedenen Elemente der Box, vom Vinyl-Tonträger bis zur
Haarpomade, versuchen seinen stilprägenden Look und die unverwechselbare Atmosphäre
Morrisseys einzufangen.
Begleiter durch die Box sind ‘Hector & Jeane’, ein Pärchen, welches in verschiedenen Lebensund Beziehungs-Situationen Morrisseys Ambivalenz verkörpern soll – emotional – melancholisch – direkt, aber unnahbar. Die grafische Sprache dazu ist eine zurückgenommene – die
Farbigkeit reduziert. Klare, abstrakte Formen des Logos und der Elemente harmonieren mit
einer klassischen Serif-Typografie. Die Kleidung der beiden Darsteller wird beigetragen von
EThel Vaughn (www.ethelvaughn.com).
Die vorliegende Arbeit ist im Abschluß-Semester an der Hamburger Kunstschule Wandsbek
(www.kw19.de) entstanden. Begleitende Tutoren waren René Fehrmann, Daniel Schwind und
Stefan Kerp.
