Ankündigungen, Witze, Fotos, usw Ein Wort vom Präsident (A Word from the President) Summer is coming to a close. By the weather it's still hot and dry, but by the calendar we are already almost a couple weeks into autumn (der Herbst). We had a recent confluence of events with the Comal County Fair and the annual Texanischer Gebirgs Sängerfest being hosted this year in New Braunfels by our own New Braunfels Gemischter Chor Harmonie. As many of you know, about half of the Gemischter Chor and their spouses are also members of the German -American Society. German music was provided by the New Braunfels Village Brass Band and choirs from Fredericksburg, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi. The Gemischter Chor Harmonie has expressed their sincere thanks for the German-American Society's support and the full page Glückwunsch in the program (Festschrift). Unfortunately, we were unable to gather enough support in time to produce a float and crew for the Comal County Fair parade this year. Looking forward, we have Wurstfest coming up! Everyone likes Wurstfest. Listen for announcements at our October 6 general meeting. Soon we'll be arranging for merchandise inventories, pricing, and volunteer scheduling. The Board is very grateful for the dedicated volunteers already taking care of booth repair and cleanup, thank you. We are seeking a volunteer to serve as liaison with the Greater New Braunfels Arts Council (GNBAC). The Council is designed as an umbrella organization, a coalition of local arts and cultural organizations each represented by a single representative. The purpose of the GNBAC is to encourage and develop local arts organizations and to unite the coalition’s efforts for strong political influence in assuring a healthy arts environment within the greater New Braunfels area. The instrumentation is acoustic guitar, upright bass and mountain dulcimer. They perform a mix of Country/Americana songs by famous artists and a few original tunes in as well. Some of you may know Patricia & Thomas Sigg, who also belong to the Hermannsöhne Gemischter Chor from Fredericksburg. They make it to all of the Sängerfests! This should be a fun evening, so don't miss it! Cindy Coers WURSTFEST 2015 Well, it is that time again! WURSTFEST! Mary Irwin, Helgard Hollis, Diane Moltz, and I have been busy purchasing some great merchandise to sell in the German-American Society booth. Wurstfest 2015 Pin Thanks to Joyce Evans, Mary Devine, Lillian Sands and Karola LeMieux, for submitting designs for our 2015 pin. The Board chose the design from Karola. The pin has been produced and will be available at our October 6 meeting. Members will be able to purchase the pins for $5.00 prior to selling at our booth for $8.00. Wurstfest Sign-Up for Volunteers The Wurstfest sign-up will start at the October 6 meeting. I will be at the Elk’s Lodge, prior to social time, starting at 5:45 and will continue to have the sign up available during the evening. Volunteers should limit their sign-up to two shifts. This will allow for everyone to have an opportunity to sign up. I will also have another sign-up sheet for those of you who would be willing to “fill in” if someone calls in sick or backs out for another reason, and for those of you willing to work more than two shifts. This will help me with ensuring all slots are filled up. Look forward to WURSTFEST 2015! Cindy Coers Das Deutsche Amerikanische Monatsblatt 2
