Vor fünf Jahren ist die Website des Melton Prior Instituts zum ersten Mal an den Start gegangen. Zeit genug, ihre
Ausrichtung und ihr Erscheinungsbild zwischenzeitlich zu überdenken und benutzerfreundlicher zu gestalten. Der
Tatsache, dass das Melton Prior Institut sich in den letzten Jahren mit zunehmender Intensität auch den
druckgrafischen Techniken gewidmet hat, mit denen Reportagezeichnungen übermittelt wurden und werden, wird
nun auch in der Bezeichnung des Instituts Rechnung getragen. Es heißt jetzt Institute for reportage drawing and
printing culture.
Nach langer Vorbereitungszeit erscheint nun auch der erste Teil der kommentierten Archivbestände des Instituts
zum Werk des politischen Pamphletisten, Dichters, Holzstechers, und Xylographiehistorikers William James Linton
in einer digitalisierten Fassung erscheint. "Linton - A Life in the collections" kann als die wohl umfangreichste
monografische Quelle zur Entstehungsgeschichte politischer Kunst im neunzehnten Jahrhundert gelten. Dass die
Frühgeschichte interventionistischer Kunst untrennbar verbunden ist mit der aufregendsten Entwicklungsphase
des künstlerischen Hochdrucks, wird sich im Verlauf der Edition dieser vierteiligen Bio-Bibliographie
herausstellen. "Linton - A life in the collections" umfasst insgesamt mehr als 200 Artikel und Kommentare, die in
der online-Version mit über 1000 Abbildungen illustriert sind. Daneben stehen reine Textfassungen als pdfs zur
Verfügung.

The website of the Melton Prior Institute was launched five years ago. Enough time to now reconsider its
orientation and appearance and to design it in a more user-friendly way. The fact that in the past years the Melton
Prior Institute has been increasingly dedicated to the graphic printing techniques with which reportage drawings
were and still are passed down will be reflected in the institutes name, which is from now on Institute for reportage
drawing and printing culture.
After a longer preparatory phase the first part of the institute’s commented archive stocks of the oeuvre of the
political pamphleteer, poet, wood engraver and xylography historian, William James Linton, appears in a digitised
form. Linton - A Life in the collections can count as the probably most comprehensive monographic source related
to the history of political art in the 19th century. That the early history of interventionist art is inextricably tied to
the most exciting development phase of artistic relief printing will be revealed during the course of publishing this
four-part bio-bibliography. Linton - A life in the collections comprises more than 200 articles and commentaries
illustrated with more than 1,000 pictures in the online version. In addition, pure text versions are available as PDFs.

The Getty Foundation’s Online Scholarly Catalogue Initiative (OSCI) challenged a select group of nine museums to
create an innovative online scholarly publication that would transform how museums publish curatorial and
conservation research about their permanent collections. The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased now to invite you
