Massnahme
The work site is located inside the main north axis in Spain on the highway A-8. This section is situated
between Lieres and Villaviciosa, two villages in the province Asturias. The total length of this new
highway is 17,2km including two important tunnels, one bridge and vertical slopes. The total amount of
the investment by the owner, the Ministry of Public Works, was around 278 Mio EUR. This highway has
big economical importance because it connects all the North Autonomous Communities in Spain.
Geobrugg Ibérica S.A., Spain (GBI), was involved in the design of the slope stabilization and rockfall
protection systems. All the work was coordinated by GBI, with the participation of their own teams and
the collaboration of the companies Site, Tesinsa and Grúas Usabiaga as main subcontractors. The
installation of the barrier RX- 300 was made in a record time of only four weeks, engaging approx. 30
people and using a lot of machinery. This was necessary because the highway had to be opened to the
traffic at a defined date. This work was the most important project of GBI so far and it underlines their
capacity as general contractor. For the successful work the GBI team was congratulated by the client, the
authorities and even the Ministry of Public Works.
