AGOSTINI, Tiziano: Born in Gorizia in 1961, Associate Professor at the University of
Trieste Psychology Faculty where he teaches Methodology of Psychological Research
and Introductory Psychology. He has also taught in the U.S. He is interested in Visual
Perception, in Cognitive Ergonomy, and in History of Psychology; he developed researches on color, and he is a co-author of a new theory in this domain. He is member
of national and international scientific associations and a permanent member of AlpsAdria Psychology Scientific Committee. He organized two editions of the European
Conference on Visual Perception and national conferences. He coordinates FIAT Research Centre projects in Cognitive Ergonomy. Recently, he is involved also in Cognitive Sport Psychology. He coordinates national grants and international collaborations.

BOUDEWIJNSE, Geert-Jan: Earned his doctorate at the McGill University in Montreal on
a study on influences of certain 19th-century German philosophers of the mind upon
the 20th-century Berlin and Graz Gestalt schools. The chapter on the Graz Gestalt
schools won the 2nd prize in the Wolfgang Metzger Award 1999 and appeared in Gestalt Theory. The journal Axiomathes published his article on John Macnamara who
introduced categorical logic to psychology. Teaching at the Department of Psychology,

CALÌ, Carmelo: is a researcher of Psychology of Arts at the University of Palermo (Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities). His interest is focused on the chance of giving a
phenomenological and descriptive theory of differences among ecological and picture
perception, picture and mirror images perception, picture perception and mental imagery. He has also devoted part of his research in retracing the Gestalt psychology’s
roots back in the Brentano School and in actualizing the phenomenological method in
modern Cognitive Science’s issues. At present, his interest is focused on issues such
as: epistemological dualism as a tool for facing the Mind/Body problem; Neuroscience’s
findings and phenomenological claims about phenomenal consciousness, and brain

ENGELMANN, Arno: Born 1931 in Berlin. Moved as a child to Vienna, then to Paris, and
in 1941 to Brazil. As a student I followed incompletely the Medical Faculty and completely the Philosophy Course, at the time containing philosophical and psychological
courses. Since 1960 working in the Psychological Institute of Sao Paulo University
on perception, emotion, consciousness, history of psychology, and epistemology.
Researches on “subjective states”, not necessarily emotional, and writes theoretical
papers. Feels himself as an experimental researcher in Gestalt Natural Science with
mainly interests in psychological problems, and also as a citizen of the world with many
interests in Brazilian problems.

GALLI, Giuseppe: Geb. 1933, ist ordentlicher Professor für Allgemeine Psychologie an

MECHSNER, FRANZ: is a neurobiologist by education. After having worked as a novelist
and free lance journalist, he is currently a senior researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research. His main interest concerns perceptual and cognitive

RAGSDALE, Edward S.: Clinical psychologist in private practice in New York City - my
interest in Gestalt theory began during my Ph.D. work at the New School for Social Research. There I had the good fortune to study under Mary Henle. Under her guidance,
I did thesis research in the psychology of values, to test empirically Duncker’s hypothesis of an invariant relation between meaning and value. After graduation, I began work
as a psychotherapist, and established a private practice in NYC (and briefly in Los
Angeles) - for the past 10 or 15 years, I have re-immersed myself in broader theoretical
questions concerning motivation and value, affect and cognition, and the organization
of consciousness.

RIGHI, Giovanni: Born in Trieste in 1975, he graduated in Experimental Psychology at
the Trieste University in 2001. At present, he is a Ph.D. student, he works on Experimental Sport Psychology and he is active in the research on the development of the

Nach dem Studium der Philosophie und Lehramtsprüfung in Triest, Italien, übersiedelte sie nach Deutschland, wo sie als Gymnasiallehrerin in der Schulabteilung und dann in der Kulturabteilung des Italienischen Generalkonsulats München arbeitete. VICARIO, Giovanni Bruno: 72, is full professor of General Psychology at Udine University. Former assistant of Gaetano Kanizsa in Trieste, he held courses in psychological
disciplines at the universities of Trieste, Siena, Padova (for 29 years) and Udine. At
present he is considered one of the most eminent representatives of Gestalt tradition
in Italy. His main research contributions are in event perception (visual and auditory
fields), and in psychology of time. A volume on time psychology, where 14 topics are
treated in the light of theoretical discussions and experimental findings, will soon appear in Italian edition. He received the Wolfgang Metzger Award 1999 for a study on
movement perception.

ZANFORLIN, Mario: graduated in Education in Padova (1963) with a thesis in Psychology under the supervision of Prof. F. Metelli and obtained his Ph. D. in animal behaviour
in Edinburgh (G.B.). (1968) under the supervision of A. Manning. Since 1976 he has
been full professor of animal and comparative psychology in the Faculty of Psychology
in Padova. Research interests concern both human and animal behaviour in their various aspects with a particular preference for visual perception and evolution of cognitive
