das, was Ihnen die Lufthansa seit Ende letzten Jahres mit ihrem neuen und noch
vielfältigeren Weinangebot an Bord präsentiert. Für mehr Variation wechselt die
Karte jetzt monatlich, und abseits aller ausgetretenen Pfade begeben Sie sich mit
mir auf eine Entdeckungstour. Seit dem Jahr 2000 darf ich für Sie Weine empfehlen.
Damit Sie an Bord eine hervorragende Auswahl haben, verkoste ich zusammen
mit einem Expertenteam jedes Jahr eine Vielzahl von Weinen. Meine Weinreisen
führen mich dabei in berühmte Lagen, aber auch in bisher wenig bekannte Regionen.
Und diese besonderen Tropfen möchte ich Ihnen unter der Rubrik „off the beaten
track“ vorstellen. Es handelt sich dabei um Spezialitäten und echte Geheimtipps.
Ab sofort bieten wir Ihnen zusätzlich jeweils einen Weißwein und ­einen Rotwein
an, zum Reinschmecken und Entdecken.
„Off the beaten track“ möche ich Ihnen im September den einzigartigen Grand
Cru Corton-Charlemagne vorstellen. Für Fans von feinen roten Tropfen halten wir
den eleganten Klassier Château Durfort-Vivens bereit, ein Deuxième Cru Classé
aus Margaux mit Eleganz und Klasse.

Leaving known roads behind to discover excitement. Entering unknown territory
instead of following old paths. Starting November 2013, we at Lufthansa are going
off the beaten track with our new and wider on-board selection of wines. And for
even more variation, our wine list will change monthly. So join us in leaving the
beaten track on a journey of discovery. I have been making wine recommendations for you since 2000. My team of experts and I taste a great number of wines
every year to ensure that you have an excellent variety on board. This journeys of
wine tasting take me to both famous sites and hitherto less known regions. And it
is these wines that I wish to present to you under the rubric “off the beaten track”.
These are specialties and true insiders‘ tips. From now on, we are also pleased
to offer you both a white and a red wine to taste and discover.
For „Off the beaten track“ in September I would like to present the unique Grand
Cru Corton Charlemagne, while for fans of fine red wines we have the elegant
classic, Château Durfort-Vivens, a Deuxième Cru Classé from Margaux of great
class and style.

Eleganz und Finesse ­stehen dabei im
Vordergrund dieses perfekt balancierten
Cham­pagners. Er überzeugt mit frischem Geschmack, feinperliger Koh­­
lensäure und Anklängen von Zitrus­
früchten, weißen Blüten, Brioche sowie
zarten minera­lischen Noten.

It is around 140 years ago that M
­ adame
Louise Pommery invented „brut champagne“. Since then innovation has been
the norm in the house of Pommery
and this is successfully carried on by
talented winemaker, ­Thierry Gasco. In
Pommery’s most ­recent creation, wines
from the best vineyards and vintages
of the house are carefully blended together. The key attributes of this perfectly balanced champagne are elegance
and finesse. On the palate it is most
appealing with its crisp acidity, finelybeaded mousse and hints of citrus,
white blossom and fresh brioche, as
well as a delicate touch of minerality.

2012 Scharzhofberger GG, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Deutschland
An der Saar liegt der berühm­te
Scharzhofberg. Eine nach Süden aus­
gerichtete Steillage, an der ausschließ­
lich Riesling angepflanzt wird. Das
Große Gewächs des Weinguts Reichs­
graf, dem der größte Anteil in diesem
Weinberg gehört, zeichnet sich durch
seine feine Schieferwürze und elegan­
te Gelbfruchtnoten aus.
One of the most famous vineyards in
Germany is located in the Saar Valley.
The Scharzhofberg is a steep, southfacing slope. Only Riesling is grown
here. Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt owns
most of the vineyard and their Großes
Gewächs is characterized by its fine
spiciness from the slate and its notes
of elegant yellow fruit.

Südafrika bietet Genuss pur. Das Wein­­
gut Kleine Zalze macht da keine Aus­
nahme. Besucher erwar­ten hier aus­ge­
zeichnete Gastronomie, hervorragende
Weine und eine drama­tische Land­schaft,
die für die Kapregion typisch ist. Dieser
Sauvignon Blanc verführt mit Grapefruit­­
noten, Zitronenzeste, Passionsfrucht
und Kapstachelbeere.
South Africa is a hedonist’s delight.
The Kleine Zalze wine farm is no
exception. Typically for the Cape,
visitors can expect superb food in the
restaurant and outstanding wines, as
well as a dramatic landscape. This
Sauvignon Blanc shows seductive
fruit notes of grapefruit, lemon juice,
passion fruit and Cape gooseberry.

­Robert Mondavi, USA
Off the beaten track
Inspiriert von den Weinen Europas, ex­
perimentierte der kalifornische Wein­pio­
nier Robert Mondavi mit einer Rebsorte,
die er im Loiretal entdeckte. Sie war
dort als Blanc Fumé bekannt. Er kehrte
den Namen kurzerhand um und nannte
seinen Wein Fumé Blanc. Heute gehört
dieser Wein mit feinen Grapefruit­noten,
Gelbfrucht und eleganter Würze zu den
Klassikern der neuen Welt.
Inspired by the wines of Europe, the
Californian wine pioneer, Robert Mondavi,
experimented with a grape variety which
he discovered in the Loire Valley. It was
known there as Blanc Fumé. He simply
turned the name around and called his
wine Fumé Blanc. Today this wine, with
its elegant notes of grapefruit, yellow
fruit and fine spici­ness, is considered to
be one of the classics of the new world.
2009 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru,
Pierre André, Frankreich
Der Legende nach ließ Kaiser Karl der
Große den Weinberg anlegen in dem
ausschließlich Chardonnay angebaut
wird. Der besondere, kalkhaltige Boden
ist für diese Rebsorte ideal, die sich mit
nussigen Aromen, feinen Gelbfrucht­
noten und Röstaromen auszeichnet.
Legend has it that it was the emperor
Charlemagne who had this vineyard
established in which only Chardonnay
is planted. The very special calcareous soil is ideal for Chardonnay and
the wine exhibits nutty aromas, subtle
hints of yellow fruit and spicy notes.

Toskana wurde zum Namensgeber
dieses italienischen Kultweines der
aus den Rebsorten Sangiovese und
Merlot komponiert ist. Er präsentiert
sich mit komplexen Duft und feinem,
kraftvollem Geschmack am Gaumen.
The unique and bewitching Tuscan
light has given its name to this Italian
cult wine which is composed of Sangiovese and Merlot. It has a complex
bouquet and elegant yet powerful
­flavors on the palate.
2009 Barcolobo Crianza, Castilla y
Leon, Finca La Rinconada, Spanien
Tempranillo, Syrah und Cabernet
­Sauvignon finden zu einem komplexen
Aromenspiel zusammen, das sich durch
Noten von Kirschen und Brombeeren,
getrockneten Feigen, Kaffee und feiner
Kräuterwürze auszeichnet. 12 Monate
reift dieser Wein in kleinen Eichenfässern, um seinen opulent-balsamischen
Charakter zu entwickeln.
Tempranillo, Syrah and Cabernet
­Sauvignon come together to create
a complex bouquet distinguished by
notes of cherry and blackberry, dried
figs, coffee and a subtle herbal spiciness. The wine matures for 12 months
in small oak casks, allowing it to develop its rich and opulent character.

Bruno Prats and Hubert de Bouard,
Südafrika
They are considered to be the magicians of wine: Prats formerly brought
Château Cos d’Estournel up to the top
of the 2ième Crus Classés, while de
Bouard managed the ascent of Château
Angélus to the top ranks of Saint Emilion.
Together they have built up a wine estate of outstanding quality in Stellenbosch’s Helderberg Region. This Anwilka is an elegant and full-bodied wine.

Das Château hat eine bewegte Ge­
schich­te. Für den US-Präsiden­ten
­Thomas Jefferson, der das Weingut
1775 besuchte, kam es gleich hinter
Haut-Brion, Margaux und Lafite-Rothschild. Nach einem Dornröschenschlaf
hat Gonzague Lurton das Gut zu neuen
Höhen geführt. Ein eleganter Wein mit
feiner Frucht und seidigen Tanninen.
This Château has an event­ful history.
For US President Thomas Jefferson
who visited the estate in 1775, it ranked
just after Haut-Brion, Margaux and
Lafite-Rothschild. After a long period of
inertia, Gonzague Lurton brought the
celebrated estate back to glory again.
This 2008 vintage shows elegance,
fine fruit, and silky tannins.

Sie gehören zu den Magiern des
Weines: Prats führte das Château Cos
d’Estournel einst an die Spitze der 2e
Crus Classés und de Bouard schaffte
mit Château Angélus den Aufstieg in
die Spitzenklasse von Saint-Emilion. In
Stellenboschs Helderberg Region haben sie ein Weingut der Son­derklasse
aufgebaut. Dieser Spitzenwein Anwilka
präsentiert sich kraftvoll und elegant.

2005 Bonnezeaux, Château de
Fesles, Frankreich
Nur rund 130 Hektar Rebfläche machen
die Appellation Bonnezeaux an der
Loire aus. Beauregard, Fesles und La
Montagne heißen die drei Steillagen
oberhalb der Gemeinde Thouarcé im
Herzen des Anjou. Auf ihren Schiefer­
böden und mit Hilfe der Edelfäule
Botrytis Cinerea, wird aus der Rebsorte
Chenin Blanc einer der begehrtesten
Süßweine Frankreichs gekeltert. Dieser
zeigt auch bei Château de Fesles die
klassischen Aromen von Quitte, Honig
und exotischen Früchten.
The appellation of Bonnezeaux in the
Loire consists of only approximately
130 ha of vineyards. The three steep
vineyard sites above the commune of
Thouarcé in the heart of Anjou are
Beauregard, Fesles and La Montagne.
One of the most sought-after dessert
wines of France is made here from the
chenin blanc grape grown on slate
soils with the help of the noble rot
botrytis cinerea. Château de Fesles
also shows the classic aromas of
quince, honey and exotic fruit.

Grappa Nonnino „Cru Monovitigno“
Merlot, Italien
Nur Betriebe, die neben einer hohen
und absoluten Qualitätsphilosophie
auch in Forschung und Innovation
investieren, sind für den italienischen
Premio Leonardo preiswürdig. Dass
die Familie Nonnino diesen Preis er­
halten hat, wundert daher kaum. Ein
Beispiel für die Preisbegründung
könnte dieser feine Grappa aus der
Kollektion „Cru Monovitigno“ sein.
Nonnino waren die ersten, die Trester
einzelner Lagen oder Rebsorten nach
Jahrgängen getrennt destilliert und auf
Flasche gezogen haben. Und diese
Innovation macht auch dem Gaumen
Vergnügen, denn Frucht und feine
florale Noten verbinden sich zu einem
harmonischen Genuss für die Sinne.
To be considered for the Italian Premio
Leonardo award, companies must
not only have a strict premium quality
philosophy, but must also invest in
research and innovation. It is there­fore
hardly surprising that the Nonnino
family have won this award, with this
fine grappa from the „Cru Monovitigno“
collection no doubt being one of the
justifying factors. Nonnino were the
first grappa producer to distill the marc
of individual vineyards or grape varieties
and bottle them separately. This inno­
vation is also most charming on the
palate as fruit and subtle floral notes
combine to create a harmonious
indulgence for all the senses.
