Patronage
Each child is an individual and we are responsible for each and every one. It is not
enough to live in a nice house and have some money handy. We must constantly fight
for the rights of every single child and must ensure that they develop sane and sound.
Just as it is the job of the gardener to make sure flowers come to bloom, it is our job to
make sure the qualities of our children blossom. Of course, there are always problems
and the work never ends. But no one can hinder a plant being watered just as no one
can hinder a child being helped. It is my hope and that of all those who support me, that
we can give these children an adequate education so that they will be able to stand on

The Children's Charity Foundation Tendol Gyalzur in Tibet is responsible for:
The management of two orphanages. In 1993, the first orphanage was opened in
Toelung in Central Tibet, on the western edge of Lhasa. A second home exists since
1997 in Gyalthang/Shangri-La in East Tibet/Yunnan Province. We currently care for a
total of some 100 orphans and half-orphans. Each home is managed by a set of Tibetan
houseparents.
63 indigent nomadic children from the region of Lithang, East Tibet, who go to school in
Lithang and whose upkeep, food and school fees are covered by the Foundation.
Schooling of ca. 10 students in schools of higher education, whose parents cannot afford
the annual school fees. The Foundation supports these schools, since a good education
guarantees a better future for the Tibetan minority.
Children are accepted according to strict criteria laid down by Tendol Gyalzur herself.
She is personally present at the assessment of each child's admission. The following
selection criteria must be met if possible:
1. The child should either be an orphan or a half-orphan.
2. Admission can only be granted if there are no existing relatives who could care for the
child.
3. Admission should only be granted if relatives are not in a position to send the child to
school (critical points: costs of uniforms and school supplies, school is too far away).
4. The child must be healthy. This is the only way he will be allowed to go to school.
5. Age of admission: between three and eleven years old; older children should already
be able to read and write, so that they can be integrated in the school.
6. Admission can only be considered when the relatives concerned or responsible social
workers expressly call for it.
Tendol and Losang Gyalzur supervise the project on-site during a stay of around six
months each year and are present personally when new children are admitted.
Strict neutrality regarding political and religious issues is of utmost importance to us.

AS A HOME PATRON:
MY CONTRIBUTION COVERS THE COSTS OF PROJECTS NOT COVERED BY PERSONAL PATRONAGE, SUCH AS
COSTS IN THE EVENT OF A CHILD'S ILLNESS, BUILDING RENOVATIONS OR COSTS FOR THE NOMAD
CHILDREN IN LITHANG. NO FEES ARE DEDUCTED FOR THE ORGANISATION; THE MONEY GIVEN IS ENTIRELY
FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CHILD IN QUESTION.
I WILL BE REGULARLY INFORMED OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE CHILDREN'S CHARITY FOUNDATION TENDOL
GYALZUR IN TIBET.
I MAY TERMINATE MY PATRONAGE AT ANY TIME AFTER THE FIRST YEAR IN WRITING. I DO NOT HAVE TO
GIVE THE REASON FOR THIS AND HAVE NO FURTHER OBLIGATION.
