APRIL EVENTS
Wusstet ihr, dass im April
auf SEXUELLE NÖTIGUNG UND
ÜBERGRIFFE aufmerksam gemacht
wird?
“Red My Lips” ist eine globale
Kampagne, die Aufmerksamkeit auf
sexuelle Gewalt lenken möchte.
Gleichzeitig wird gegen
Vergewaltigungsmythen und
Schuldzuweisungen an das Opfer
angekämpft.
Lasst uns im April roten
Lippenstift bzw. Klamotten tragen
und damit unsere Solidarität mit
den Opfern ausdrücken. Lasst uns
zeigen, dass wir nicht unsichtbar
sind... oder stumm.
Den ganzen Monat über werden wir
zudem Spenden für “Frauen gegen
Gewalt e.V.” sammeln, eine
Wohltätigkeitsorganisation, welche
über 160 Frauenberatungsstellen
unterhält.
Das Overseas wird über Ostern
(3. und 4. April) geschlossen
bleiben. Ab Mittwoch (8. April)
sind wir wieder da und freuen
uns darauf euch
wiederzusehen. Am liebsten in
rot.
Did you know that April is

Red My Lips is a global awareness
campaign designed to raise
visibility and awareness of sexual
violence, while combatting rape
myths and victim-blaming.
Let's wear red lipstick and/or
clothes in April to express
solidarity with survivors and show
that we refuse to be invisible...
refuse to be silent.
Throughout the month we will also
be collecting donations for the
charity organisation Women Against
Violence e.V., which incorporates
more than 160 women's counselling
centres and rape crisis centres.
The Overseas will be closed on
the 3rd and 4th of April for
the Easter weekend. We are
looking forward to seeing you
again from Wednesday the 8th.

SHORT STORY SOIREE
Für diejenigen, die noch nicht da waren - hier eine kurze
Erklärung: Leute kommen zusammen um interessante
Kurzgeschichten und Gedichte vorzulesen, die sie gefunden
oder sogar selbst geschrieben haben. Hier wird nicht
wettgeeifert oder bewertet. Wir haben einfach nur Spaß
daran Geschichten zu teilen. Habt auch ihr Lust darauf?
Kommt vorbei und lest uns was vor! Wer nicht vorlesen mag,
kommt vorbei um zuzuhören.
For those of you who haven't yet had the pleasure, our short
story soiree is a very relaxed low-key night where people get
together and read interesting stories or poems that they have
written or found. There is no competition or evaluation, just
some people sharing ideas and stories with one another. Care
to join us? Come and read us a story! Or just come and listen.

INTERNATIONAL TABLETOP DAY
Weltweit treffen sich am International Tabletop Day Freunde
von Brett- und Kartenspielen, um zu feiern, was Menschen
schon seit Jahrzehnten zusammen an einen Tisch bringt.
All over the world, board game and card game fans meet on
International Tabletop Day to celebrate something that has
been bringing people together for decades.
Einige Spiele werden von uns bereitgestellt, jedoch darf und
soll jeder auch gerne selbst Spiele mitbringen, um sie den
Anwesenden zu erklären und natürlich auch selbst zu
spielen. Genutzt werden können die zahlreichen Tische des
Overseas, aber natürlich kann auch der Boden benutzt
werden. Egal, ob ihr die gesamte Zeit über dabei seid oder
"nur" für 1-2 Stunden vorbeikommen möchtet, um ein paar
Runden zu spielen - Jeder ist gerne gesehen! Kommt vorbei
und spielt mit!
We will provide some games, but everyone can and should
bring some games themselves to show the other
players...and to play of course. All of the small and large
tables of the Overseas are at your disposal, but of course you
are also more than welcome to use the floor. Whether you
come for the whole time or just pop in for an hour or two,
everyone is welcome! Come and play with us!

TNDC - ENGLISH MEETUP
Thursday Night Drinks Cologne ist ein internationaler
englischsprachiger Stammtisch, der sich einmal in der Woche
in verschiedenen Bars und Kneipen in Köln trifft. Man nimmt
ein Getränk zu sich und spricht Englisch. Neue Gesichter sind
immer gerne gesehen. Wenn ihr also Zeit und Lust habt,
kommt einfach am 16. April vorbei.
Thursday Night Drinks Cologne is an international meetup
group that get together once a week for drinks in different
bars in Cologne and speak English. New faces are always
welcome so come down to the Overseas on the 16th and
meet them if you have time.

Am dritten Samstag im Monat wird gespielt. Brettspiele,

schlimm. Es gibt an dem Abend genug. Kommt einfach rum!
The third Saturday of the month is time for games; board
games, card games, word games... any kind of games. If you
have a good game bring it along, if not, don't worry about it,
there are enough to go around. Just bring yourself.

Da unser Termin im März abgesagt werden musste,
besprechen wir “Beloved” von Toni Morrison nun im April. Es
ist ein wundervoller amerikanischer Klassiker, für den
Morrison sogar einen Pulitzer Preis bekommen hat. Wenn ihr
den Roman gelesen habt, kommt vorbei und philosophiert
mit uns. Wenn ihr es noch nicht gelesen habt, holt das nach
und kommt dann zur Buchbesprechung.
As our March session was sadly cancelled, we will be
discussing 'Beloved' by Toni Morrison in April. It is a wonderful
Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and a great American classic. If
you have read it, come and join in the discussion. If you
haven't read it, read it, then come and join in the discussion!

Habt ihr jemals das Gefühl gehabt, in euch sei ein Pirat, der
unbedingt rausgelassen werden möchte? Am Samstag, (25.
April) könnt ihr den Schurken singen lassen. Ein paar
Seeräuber werden ihre Gitarren erklingen lassen. Wir werden
Seemannslieder anstimmen und viel Rum trinken. Kommt
vorbei und bringt euren Papagei, eure Augenklappe und eine
laute Stimme mit und macht mit uns Piratenmusik.
Do you ever feel like there is a pirate inside you waiting to get
out? On Saturday the 25 th you can let the scurvy scoundrel
sing. There will be some salty dogs strumming guitars,
shanties to be sung and rum to be drunk. Bring yourself, your
parrot, your eyepatch and a big loud voice to join in with the
pirate music.

DINNER AT GATE TO INDIA
Diesen Monat führt uns unsere kulinarische Reise nach
Indien. Und mit Indien meinen wir “Gate to India” in der
Engelbertstr. 17, 50674 Köln. Wir befinden uns dann zwar
immer noch auf dem falschen Kontinent, aber wir sind uns
sicher, dem Geschmack wird das keinen Abbruch tun. Bitte
sagt uns rechtzeitig Bescheid, ob ihr dabei sein werdet.
This month our culinary journey is taking us to India. And by
India, we mean Gate to India on Engelbertstraße – number 17
to be exact (Cologne 50674). Given the restaurant's proximity,
you might notice that you are not actually in India but we are
pretty sure that your tastebuds will be fooled. Please let us
know asap if you will be joining us.

ihr inzwischen wisst) immer gerne gesehen.
It's a double whammy! Not only would we like to welcome in
the spring by dancing our way into May, but we would also
like to celebrate two wonderful years with all of you. Please
come and join us. The dress code is as floral, as loud and as
silly as you like. As always, hats are appreciated.
Als kleines Dankeschön für eure Unterstützung in den letzten
beiden Jahren, bekommen die Gäste zwei kleine Geschenke

As a small thank you for your support over the last two years,

In diesem Monat wird wieder ein Sachbuch besprochen. Wir
haben uns für “'Watching the English: the hidden rules of
English behaviour” von Kate Fox, einer Sozialanthropologin,
entschieden. “Ich verstehe nicht, warum Anthropologen an
die abgelegtesten Orte der Erde fahren und sich Diarrhö
einfangen müssen, nur um seltsame Stämme und Kulturen
mit bizarren Überzeugungen und mysteriösen Bräuchen zu
studieren. Den seltsamsten und verblüffensten aller Stämme
finden wir doch vor der eigenen Haustür, “so die Autorin.
