#02 SUNDAY, January 26th | DIMANCHE 26 janvier 2014 who said that / QUI A DIT QUE... ____ The heart and soul of the company is creativity and innovation. Robert IGER (1951/….), President of Walt Disney ____ Innovation is an alliance between research, marketing, instinct, imagination, product and industrial courage. Antoine RIBOUD (1918-2002), French manufacturer ____ The primary benefit of an application is to change behaviour, without telling you to change behaviour. Adrian HO, Co-Founder of Zeus Jones, specialist in brand and marketing strategies ____ Innovation is not flash of genius. It is hard work. And this work should be organized as a regular part of every unit within the enterprise, and of every level of management. Peter DRUCKER (1909-2005), American Management Theorist ____ Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. Albert EINSTEIN (1879-1955), American Physicist ____ Innovation is what distinguishes a leader from a follower. Steve JOBS (1955/2011), Co-Founder of Apple Inc ____ Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties. Erich FROMM (1900/1980), American Humanist Psychoanalyst ____ Companies have too many experts who block innovation. True innovation really comes from perpendicular thinking. Peter DIAMANDIS (1961/….), American Engineer, author of “The Future is better than you think” so what do you think? ET VOUS, QU’EN PENSEZ-VOUS ? An international trade show, entirely dedicated to showcasing new products and promoting innovation, Interfilière Paris has asked its exhibitors what they think of innovations past and future. For knit specialists, shapewear is the most important innovation over the last few seasons. However, manufacturers have high expectations from research into the potential of 3D and ergonomics. Ladies and gentlemen researchers, the ball is in your court! Daniel Henry Some of these quotes will raise an eyebrow, others a smile. Some are recent, others from longer ago. Some will no doubt surprise you, others may worry you and some are sure to offer reassurance. Peter DIAMANDIS (1961/….), ingénieur américain, auteur de ‘The Future is better than you think’ IFL Paris: In your opinion, which innovation has had the greatest impact on the market over the last few seasons? ____Ultra-fine yarns and gauges which have allowed for the development of very fine fabrics with high levels of support and “seamless” applications. Alain Liebaert, CEO of Liebaert. ____Ultra-light and ultra-fine shaping knits which “correct” and “remodel” the silhouette. And cosmetic textiles with slimming and “densifying” properties. Dominique Heuillard, Product Manager of Knitted Fabrics for Sofileta ____Shapewear and technical innovations such as clean-cut, high gauges and cosmetic textiles, irrespective of the technologies featured: ceramic, microencapsulation, etc. Enrico Serafini, Export Manager for Piave Maitex Srl ____All these natural materials featuring eco-dyes Harch Hong, Managing Director of Be-Be Cotton ____The fineness of yarns and the new machines which can be used to create ultra-fine, ultra-light and compact stretch knits. It’s a veritable revolution compared to the knits that we used to have to stretch out to lighten, at the risk of losing all elasticity. Xavier Minsac, Directeur commercial Billon Design IFL Paris: Which innovation do you think will make a dramatic difference in the intimates market? ____3D printing and assembly techniques. Alain Liebaert, PDG de Liebaert ____Instrumentation, maybe going as far as incorporating microprocessors, which would allow the bra to be adjusted ergonomically to fit the wearer’s specific body-shape perfectly. Dominique Heuillard, Product Manager of Knitted Fabrics for Sofileta ____An eclectic, versatile, multi-use, smart fabric, which would be capable of staying warm or cool as required. Smart, in the sense that it would be naturally ergonomic, adjusting perfectly to fit the body. Definitely something sexy, but with a technical/sportswear side as well. Enrico Serafini, Export Director for Piave Maitex Srl ____100% ecological production, that is environmentally responsible, actually saves energy and uses raw materials that are both natural and renewable. Harch Hong, Directeur Général de Be-Be Cotton A REAL FAUX MANNEQUIN: feel free to give it a squeeze ___ Cad Modelling Ergonomics A Florence-based company specializing in the design of anthropometric dress- forms, is offering a new female mannequin for lingerie, underwear and swimwear professionals. What makes it original is its astonishing texture which feels so natural that you could almost mistake it for actual skin. Soft Formax® perfectly replicates the elasticity and consistency of the human body thanks to a new soft, supple and mouldable material, allowing stylists and designers to develop, test, check and adjust their designs more easily. Several different cup-sizes can also be interchanged. UNSTOPPABLE / rien ne peut l’arrêter ___ Codentel seeks and seeks until it finds Franck Duhamel made his intentions clear from the outset, voicing his creative and innovative ambitions for CODENTEL when he first took over the Calais lacemaker with Antoine Poitau. The goal is to diversify and stand out from competitors by making fast and effective progress, without ever losing sight of their core expertise and passion: Leavers lace and Leavers lace alone. Having forayed into Haute Couture with a first collection of lace designed for dresses, Codentel then moved into interiors, with a lamp featuring petals of glow-in-the-dark lace. We should have expected that Franck Duhamel would be seeking something new. We hadn’t realised that he was already spending hours testing products on the walls of his garage! When he presented his first wall-covering at the Salon de l’Innovation et de l’Habitat in Calais last September (and won the Innovation Success Award 2013!), we realised that he would be moving on to the next big thing...and he’s found it! The must-see new product is a heatchanging Leavers whose patterns disappear when it comes into contact with the skin. A fun and surprising lace with colours that either change (where patterns are tone-on-tone against the background) or come to life (if patterns are used in contrast to the background). Franck Duhamel remains convinced: “We need to keep innovating for lingerie brands. They’re the ones who promote our know-how.” WORLD PREMIERE IN THE SILK MARKET première mondiale sur le marché de la soie ___ Bellevue™, 1st stretch silk yarn Let’s make no mistake about it, behind this very French-sounding name, it is a famous Chinese researcher, Mr Schen, who has used his 30 years of experience and knowledge in silks to research and develop a new technology at Hangzhou Bellevue-Siko Textile. Protected by four patents, the Bellevue™ silk yarn, created using a long fibre, offers a specific structure: the elastane is incorporated and trapped within the fibre. Only the silk comes into contact with the skin. The Bellevue™ yarn combines the natural properties of silk (comfort, heat-regulation, antibacterial and UV protection) with a very high level of 4-way elasticity. It is worth noting that the Bellevue™ silk yarn is capable of withstanding high temperatures and can therefore be used on the inner surface of bras, in knits, lace or woven fabrics. TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION/ UN GRAND PAS VERS LA PRODUCTION RAISONNEE ___ Tessitura Colombo Antonio launches a partner label TAKING THE PLUNGE INTO SWIMWEAR Il se jette dans le bain ___ Cheynet diversifies for Tribord Building on the strength of its know-how in technical elastic for intimates, medical and sports applications, the Cheynet group has developed a textile structure, in partnership with the Tribord brand, to fulfil the support and comfort requirements of the Easybreath snorkelling mask, winner of the Oxylane Innovation Awards 2014. This innovation has taken two years of testing and specific developments to complete. Cheynet has fully satisfied the high levels of performance, solidity and comfort required for use in a marine environment . Specializing in raschel, jacquardtronic and textronic stretch and non-stretch laces, the Italian company is preparing to launch a new “green” label in partnership with yarn suppliers. The label will be developed in the spring and officially presented at the July session of Interfilière Paris. In the meantime, Tessitura Colombo Antonio is testing the market by unveiling its first “eco” and sustainable laces at the show, created using 60% new recycled fibre yarns. And the icing on the cake? These lace bands with all-over motifs, available in stretch or nonstretch versions, are produced on new machines which use 30% solar power. ___ WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY: a wonderfully soft metallic thread from Setafil Having received a high number of requests from clients looking for a seemingly improbable metallic thread for intimates, Dietmar Schweninger told himself that nothing’s impossible...unless you give up. It took months of research to be in a position to offer what no other company, or very few have succeeded in creating: a metallic thread especially for “lingerie”, that is not in any way “scratchy”. “It has proved so popular since its release that we have continued research into metallic thread to create one that is just as soft but much finer so that embroiderers can use it for delicate patterns,” explains Dietmar Schweninger. The thread specialist is showcasing its latest innovation at the show, a Superfine (180 dtex) version of its Metallic Yarn. Schweninger Textile was set up by Dietmar Schweninger in 1991. His passion for design and knowledge of the trade, having worked for seven years in his father’s embroidery firm, help explain the company’s success. Placing the emphasis on flexibility and reactivity, Schweninger Textile now stands out from competitors thanks to its wide range of customer services, brought together in a “solutions platform”. AUSTRIAN YARNS IDEAL FOR HIGH DEFINITION/ la hd s’empare des fils de l’autrichien ___ Willy Hermann and its “high definition” collection Still leading the way in ultra-fine gauge fabrics, Willy Hermann is eager to unveil its new and extensive range of E60 jacquard knits. With this collection of “high-definition” knits, Willy Hermann offers the ultimate in fine gauges for ultra precise jacquard designs and the grounds themselves, which are dense and compact. Equally exciting, the double-sided interior/exterior E80 gauge knit, combines two materials with different looks and functions.
