Si l’on ne présente plus les W
Hotels, enseigne design du
groupe Starwood, le dernier
opus, qui vient de rejoindre la
légende urbaine de New York
(et déjà immortalisé par le
film Batman, The Dark Knight
Rises), mérite triplement son
initiale. W comme Wall Street,
W pour World Trade Center et
Wow ! Tout au bout du grand
sud de Manhattan, le W Downtown élance ses cinquante-huit
étages de transparence cristalline édifiés par le bureau d’architecture Gwathmey Siegel &
Associates. La superbe tour qui
forme un rideau de verre, est
le balcon privilégié sur l’esplanade du Mémorial national du
11 septembre (que personne
n’ose plus appeler Ground
Zero) et ses deux bassins.
Un hommage vibrant de sérénité inauguré par le président
Barack Obama le jour du
dixième anniversaire de la
tragédie. Le W Downtown regarde aussi la skyline de Lower
Manhattan et au-delà, l’Hudson
et l’East River, la Statue de la
Liberté. Dressé dans ce quartier
en pleine résilience dont le
renouveau signe déjà l’effervescence d’un district trendy,
le W reçoit, outre les traders et
autres professionnels de Wall
Street, les acteurs de la finance
internationale mais aussi la
crème du business, de la musique et de la mode. Le W a fait
le choix d’un design de luxe au
minimalisme vaporeux, inventé
par Graft Lab de Los Angeles.
Although we no longer need
to introduce the W Hotels,
Starwood group’s design brand,
their latest establishment which
has just joined the urban legends
of New York (and is already
immortalized in Batman, The
Dark Knight Rises), deserves
its first letter in three respects.
W for Wall Street, W for World
Trade Center and W for Wow!
Located in the south part of
Manhattan, the W Downtown
fits right in with its fifty-eight
crystal clear stories built by
architectural firm Gwathmey
Siegel & Associates. The magnificent tower, which brings
to mind a glass curtain, offers a
unique view over the esplanade
of the 9/11 National Memorial
(which nobody dares to call
Ground Zero anymore) with its
two pools.
A vibrantly serene tribute inaugurated by President Barack
Obama on the tenth anniversary
of the tragedy. The W Downtown also faces the Lower
Manhattan skyline and beyond
it, the Hudson, the East River
and the Statue of Liberty. Erected in a neighbourhood that is
bouncing back beautifully, the
renewal of which is already
showing signs of becoming a
trendy district, the W welcomes,
in addition to traders and other
Wall Street professionals, international finance actors as well
as business, music and fashion
elites. The W has opted for
luxurious design paired with
wispy minimalism, invented by
Graft Lab in Los Angeles.

fifth floor reception room is
adorned with the organic drapé
of undulations and LEDs designed to resemble energy waves
reflecting on the ground for
a futuristic atmosphere. The
hotel is dotted with lounges
and lobbies. In the Living Room
Bar & Terrace of the reception,
enjoy the intense vibrating
ambiance created by the incredible panorama of Manhattan.
From here, you will breathe in
pure romanticism. Upon returning from a jog through iconic
nearby Battery Park, stop by
at the BLT Bar & Grill, which
offers an American menu in a
made in USA atmosphere right
down to the terrace decoration.
