RESEARCH LAWYER POSITION
The Law Commission of Ontario (LCO) seeks a full-time research lawyer for a one-year contract
that may be extended.
The LCO was created by an Agreement to which the Law Foundation of Ontario, the Attorney
General of Ontario, Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, and the Law Society of Upper
Canada (all of whom provide funding to the LCO) and the Ontario Law Deans are parties, and is
located in the Ignat Kaneff Building at York University, home of Osgoode Hall Law School.
The LCO’s mandate is to make recommendations to improve access to justice, to stimulate
debate about the law and support scholarly research. The LCO takes a holistic approach to
addressing legal issues, undertakes multidisciplinary analysis and engages in extensive

As a research lawyer for the LCO, you will work with the heads of projects by undertaking
research, including helping to plan and organize consultations, and will otherwise contribute to
the LCO’s law reform work. You will report to the Executive Director. The successful candidate
will have at least a Bachelor of Laws degree, with at least four years since graduation,
familiarity with common law systems, particularly Ontario’s, and well-developed research,
writing and interpersonal skills. Preferably, the successful candidate will have policy
development experience. The capacity to function fully in English and French is a significant
asset. Compensation will reflect years since graduation from law school and other experience
relevant to responsibilities as a research lawyer.

La Commission du droit de l’Ontario (CDO) recherche un avocat chercheur ou une avocate
chercheure à temps plein pour un contrat d’un an qui pourrait être prolongé.
Créée dans le cadre d’une entente entre la Fondation du droit de l'Ontario, le ministère du
Procureur général de l'Ontario, la faculté de droit Osgoode Hall de l’Université York et le
Barreau du Haut-Canada (qui sont tous des bailleurs de fonds de la CDO) ainsi que les doyens
des facultés de droit de l'Ontario, la CDO est située dans l’édifice Ignat Kaneff de l’Université
York, qui abrite également la faculté Osgoode Hall.
Le mandat de la CDO consiste à formuler des recommandations pour améliorer l’accès à la
justice, stimuler le débat sur le droit et soutenir la recherche savante. La CDO adopte une
approche holistique pour traiter des questions de droit, effectue des analyses

À titre d’avocat(e) chercheur(e) pour la CDO, vous travaillerez de concert avec les responsables
de projets, effectuerez de la recherche, notamment en aidant à planifier et à organiser des
consultations, et contribuerez de diverses manières aux activités de réforme du droit de la CDO.
Vous relèverez de la directrice exécutive. La personne retenue sera au moins titulaire d’un
baccalauréat en droit depuis quatre ans ou plus, connaîtra les systèmes de common law, et plus
particulièrement celui de l’Ontario, et possèdera de fortes aptitudes en recherche, en rédaction
et en relations interpersonnelles. Le candidat ou la candidate retenu possèdera de préférence
de l’expérience en élaboration de politiques. La maîtrise de l’anglais et du français de façon à
pouvoir travailler dans les deux langues est un atout important. La rémunération tiendra
compte des années d’expérience depuis l’obtention du diplôme en droit ainsi que des autres
expériences pertinentes au poste à pourvoir.
