TRAINS
In Paris, there are 5 railway stations with trains or RER crossing the city and going to and
from the city's suburbs.
RER are regional trains faster than the underground train. They go through Paris at
different stations:
RER A: Charles de Gaule, Auber, Chatelet, Gare de Lyon, Nation
RER B: Gare du Nord, Chatelet, Saint Michel, Luxembourg, Port Royal, Denfert
Rochereau,
Cité Universitaire
RER C: Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel, Saint Michel
RER D: Gare du Nord, Chatelet, Gare de Lyon
- Gare du Nord : the biggest. RER B connects to Ch. de Gaulle Airport and to Antony
station (for
change towards Orly Airport). Other lines : RER D, metro line 4 and 5, buses.
- Gare Saint Lazare and Gare de l'Est : smaller, no direct connection to any RER. But
underground
lines and buses.
- Gare de Lyon : connected to RER A and D. Lines 1 and 14. Buses.
- Gare Montparnasse : no RER, but metro lines and buses
SCHEDULES
Tube/ Subway: Usually the metro opens around 05h30 a.m and closes around 01h00 a.m
On Friday and Saturday nights, the metro closes around 02h00 a.m
Buses: Most buses start around 6.00 a.m and finish around 9 p.m. Other finish around 11
p.m. There are several night buses also. They are indicated on the bus shelter. Free maps
are available in the underground stations.
You must look on the details of each line to be sure of their schedule. Sometimes a bus
can stop in the middle of his line. This information is indicated on the bus itself. Conductor
will know and another bus going to the end of the line will follow soon.
Exceptions with demonstrations : this will stop bus traffic. Usually indicated on the shelter
board.
TAXI
Price is indicated on the board. A fee of some Euros is added and varies if it is day or night
time. This fee is indicated on the taximeter.
For UBER, you need an application. You do not pay the conductor, your credit card will be
debited automatically.
