Just JAM! Student news . . . straight from the source! Junglesport Janice, Mya, and Sienna Ready, set, climb! During the week of March 30th, John Adam School had the pleasure of welcoming Junglesport into our gymnasium. All of the classes had the opportunity to experience the fun twice during the week. A big thank you to the PPO for raising money for this great activity. Every day there were different activities set up. There were rock climbing walls, zip lines, rope ladders, and a very challenging ‘helicopter’ ladder. All of the The students were always safe. students wore helmets at all times and they wore harnesses when it was time to climb higher or use the zip line. Everyone always had something to do! In one activity, students were in groups of 3, and while one person was climbing, the other two were pulling on a rope that kept them in the air. Some students had more trouble than others, but Inside This Issue everyone had a lot of Junglesport p. 1 fun doing What’s Happening In … p. 2 the different Cosom Hockey p. 3 activities. What’s Happening In … Grades 5 and 6 La Classe de Mme Caroline Anthony and Antoine Oh non, les examens arrivent! In Mrs. Cumming’s class they have been doing really fun projects all year. They did Art, Science, and Social Studies projects. In French, they have working on their verbs. They do Math everyday, and they read after they get back from lunch. The students like Daily Math, where they work in different groups on their multiplication and division, and also working with decimals. They learn math skills by doing fun activities. Every Tuesday and Wednesday, Ms. Liz comes from the school board to work with them. She reads them a story and then helps them learn how to write better responses. Mrs. Cumming’s students just finished an egg project. They had to turn an egg into an animal of their choice. First, they had to paint the egg, and then decorate it with googly eyes. Some kids used pipe cleaners to make arms and legs. After, they had to make a home for their egg animal using boxes, popsicle sticks, scrap paper, and other materials. When they were finished decorating their egg, they had to take care of it and write a log about what they did with their egg for the week. Now the students are starting a new project about bridges. They have to figure out what type of bridge is the strongest. They will build the bridges out of popsicle sticks. When their bridge is built, they will test them. The students in Mrs. Cumming’s class are having lots of fun this year! 2 Just JAM! JAM! Just April 2015 Volume 3, Issue 8 p. Cosom Hockey Tournament What a Performance! Overtime Decides the Game Kevin Alexa and Beatrice On the 26th of March, 11 students from John Adam went to a hockey tournament at Chambly Academy. Lead by their coach Mrs. Danielle, the boys did an awesome job, with the attackers scoring a lot of goals, the defenders blocking many shots, and the goalie freezing many of the pucks passing by him. Ten lucky girls from Grades 5 and 6 went to Chambly Academy to participate in the Cosom Hockey Tournament on Friday, March 27th. They had a great time! The girls played four games, with each game lasting 20 minutes. In the first game, the boys played against Courtland Park and were very excited and stressed. Their strong efforts lead to a nice win. In the second game, they played against Good Shepherd. The players did an awesome job in all of their positions. With their effort and leadership, the John Adam Stingers had another important win. For the third game, the John Adam players were against St-Jude. In that game, the goalie did a wonderful job. All of the team’s efforts lead to a very important win. In the semi-finals, the Stingers played against William Latter. It was another victory for John Adam! Then, it was the final game. The boys were motivated. They did a great job, and Mont-Bruno did too. The game had to end in overtime. The Stingers got a penalty for high-sticking. The players from Mont-Bruno had an opportunity to win the game, and they took it. They scored a lucky goal and they won 6 to 5. John Adam finished in second place. The boys were sad, but they were proud that they did a great job! Proud members of the Girls’ Cosom Hockey Team! The first game was off to a good start. They won against Good Shepherd. The second game was against St-Jude. It was a tight game, but the John Adam girls got through with success and won. The third game was another victory. They even scored a goal in the last 10 seconds of the game! Finally, the FINALS! They only had 1 game to play which they sadly did not win. The girls were proud anyways because it was a tight score of 6 to 5, which placed them second overall. They would have never made it to the finals without their strikers, goalies, and of course, their amazing coach Mrs. Danielle! Junior Editor - Noémie Hébert Editor-in-Chief - Kim Jarvo 3
