Here is your “devoir de vacances.” It has several different parts and I would suggest you do it in increments (in any order you like) over a period of time, rather than trying to crank it out the night before school starts since it will be your first quiz grade of the quarter. Between now and the AP test in May it is important that you acquire a lot of vocabulary, master your grammar/verb conjugations and sharpen your French listening and speaking skills. That is why you need to start this summer. Check off each item as you complete it and keep everything together. You’ll need to turn the checklist (page 3) and all the required assignments together ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. I’m proud of you for choosing AP French and truly looking forward to teaching you. If you have difficulty or questions, you may email me ([email protected] ) over the summer. I’ll be out of the country during the month of July, but can respond after that. Have a nice and productive summer, Mme Butts VOTRE DEVOIR DE VACANCES □What’s the AP test like? Click on the following link http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/ap/ap-course-overviews/ap-frenchlanguage-and-culture-course-overview.pdf Print and read the course overview. Highlight the 6 themes to be studied. On page 2, rate the 7 types of tasks, marking the one you think will be easiest with a “1” and the hardest with “7”. ( 5 points) □Print, complete and study the present tense of regular and irregular verbs (you will get a quiz during the first week of school) (5 points) http://www.fcps.edu/HerndonHS/academics/sumassignpdf/2014VERBESUTILESauPRESENTfr3RFr4smassig.pdf □Review the basic verb tenses below and make a 3” x 5” index card for each one with a brief explanation about formation, use, along with a sample sentence. Use a textbook, your French notes, an online grammar source such as http://www.laits.utexas.edu/fi/home. I also highly recommend you to practice conjugating your French verbs with www.conjuguemos.com →le passé composé with avoir and être and with reflexive verbs, l’imparfait, le plus-que-parfait, le futur simple, le conditionnel, le subjonctif) – (10 points) 3 □There is a formal email response and a persuasive essay component to this exam and we’ll be addressing these skills early on. Meanwhile, you know you will ALWAYS need transition terms. Print and study the idiom calendar (last page) to create flashcards with the term on one side and an original sentence correctly illustrating its use in French on the other. Review your pack often – there will be a quiz the first week back. (10 points) □Let’s now practice your listening comprehension skills with RFI’s SAVOIRS: Click on the link http://savoirs.rfi.fr/fr/recherche/rubrique/apprendre/objectif/apprendre-etperfectionner-le-francais-2707/objectif-domaine-dusage/francais-de-lactualite2778/editorial/questionnaire?solrsort=ds_created%20desc Make sure that you selected the listening exercises “Par date de publication” to get the some updated audio clips (see white arrow). Click on any story (Quiz or Exercice) and Listen to the audio and do the exercises that you downloaded and printed beforehand (the document containing “les activités” that you have to print is available via the “A télécharger” option. See black arrow) Please write the date and the title of the article you heard since these change constantly. (10 points) Ps- bookmark SAVOIRS website on your computer. These activities will allow you to practice your listening comprehension skills for the AP exam. 4 □Culture: Go for a cinematic experience: Check out a French language film DVD or Netflix (not an American film with a French sound track; it should be rated appropriately, of course) and watch the French version (with English subtitles if you absolutely must…). Write a short critique (10 sentences tops that needs to be typed and double-spaced ) where you briefly summarize the plot (“l’intrigue”) and give your personal opinion of the film. This should NOT be a film you’ve seen before and this should NOT be the documentary “Entre les Murs” that we will watch and study together during the first quarter.
