In accordance with role 55 of the pravisional rules of
procedure of the Security Coun~i1, the following
communîqlté was issued by the Secretary-General and
is eirculated in place of a verbatim record:
"The Security Couneil held its 614th meeting on
19 march 1953 in private and continued its consideration of the question of the recommendation
for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the
United Nations.
"The representative of the USSR proposed that
the Couneil should recommend the appointment of
Mrs. V. L. Pandit as Secretary-General.
"The USSR proposaI was put to the vote by secret
ballot and was not adopted, 2 votes being cast in
favour and one against, with 8 abstentions!'
The Couneil requested the permanent members to
continue their consultations conceming the recommendation for the appointment of the SecretaryGeneraI and to report to the Cauncil by 24 March 1953,
at 3 p.m.

Conformément aux dispositions de l'article 55 du
règlement intérieur provisoire du Conseil de sécurité,
le Secrétaire général a publié le communiqué cl-après
qui remplace le compte rendu sténographique:
"Le Conseil de sécurité a tenu le. 19 mars 1953,
à huis clos, sa 614ème séance. Le Conseil a poursuivi l'examen de la question intitulée: "Recommandations ql'e le Conseil est appelé à faire au sujet
de la nomination du Secrétaire général de l'Organisation des Nations Unies".
"Le représentant de l'Union des Républiques socialistes soviétiques a proposé au Conseil de recommande r la nomination de Mme V. L. Pandit au poste
de Secrétaire généraI.
"La proposition de l'URSS a été mise aux voix
au scrutin secret et n'a pas été adoptée, le scrutin
ayant donné le résultat suivant; 2 voix pour, une
voix contre et 8 abstentions."
Le Conseil a demandé aux membres Permanents de
poursuivre leurs consultations au sujet de la recommandation à faire touchant la nomination du Secrétaire général et de rendre compte au Conseil pou!" le 24
mars 1953, à 15 heures.
