é à Berlin en 1920, Newton commence sa carrière
de photographe à l’âge de 16 ans en travaillant
pour un célèbre photographe berlinois du nom de
Yva. À 18 ans, il émigre en Australie, puis s’installe à
Paris en 1957, où il se lance dans la photographie de
mode. Ses photos paraissent régulièrement dans les
magazines, et notamment dans Vogue. Son travail,
qui a donné lieu à de nombreuses expositions, figure
dans les collections permanentes de nombreuses
institutions, et en premier lieu de la fondation Helmut
Newton à Berlin. Parmi les prix qui lui ont été décernés,
citons le Große Bundesverdienstkreuz en Allemagne,
le Grand Prix national de la photographie en France et
le World Image Award.
