Depuis quelques années les statisticiens ont porté un intérêt croissant au problème de la causalité. Les modèles statistiques peuvent donner des guides pour une interprétation causale, ce qui est souvent le but recherché dans les études scientifiques, en particulier en épidémiologie. A côté de l'école dominante utilisant une approche basée sur les « contrefactuels », une approche basée sur des modèles dynamiques s'est développée. Les travaux les plus récents dans cette approche sont ceux de Aalen, Didelez ainsi que les nôtres. Essentiellement cette approche est basée sur une représentation des phénomènes réels par des processus stochastiques multivariés formant un « système » ; les processus élémentaires peuvent s’influencer mutuellement. De plus il est admis que les systèmes étudiés sont des simplifications de la réalité et l'on est donc amené à considérer des suites de systèmes emboîtés. Il faut encore consolider cette théorie, développer une mesure quantitative d'influence d'un processus sur un autre et développer des liens avec d'autres approches et finalement les conséquences pour les applications, en particulier en épidémiologie. Qualités souhaitées : Ce sujet nécessite de bonnes connaissances en probabilités (processus stochastiques) et statistique et demande un goût pour la modélisation de problèmes réels mais aussi pour une approche épistémologique.
