A journey to Nantes
International events, architectural gestures... cities have, for decades, sought different ways to stand out. How can a city like Nantes, without
emblematic monument, make itself known and recognised? Le Voyage à Nantes provides a possible answer to this question.
Since 2011, Le Voyage à Nantes has brought together the Nantes Métropole Tourist Information Office, Nantes Culture & Patrimoine, which managed
the Machines de l'Ile and the Château des Ducs de Bretagne, and Estuaire Nantes Saint-Nazaire. Le Voyage à Nantes was created to encourage
synergy and increase coherence between existing organisations, vital for greater visibility on the international level.
And, above all, Le Voyage à Nantes aims to enhance the city's international and local attractiveness, with an emphasis on culture, art and heritage.
The project intends to turn a weakness, the city's absence of a strong image and its scattered cultural attractions, into a strength.
"Château des Ducs de Bretagne, Machines de l'Ile, the Royal de Luxe's shows, the Scopitone festival, Estuaire, La Folle Journée… we can take
advantage of many assets to bring international visibility to the tourist attraction of the territory", explains Jean-Marc Ayrault, President of Nantes

Métropole. "We must also attract new talents, embark on new adventures, surprise, innovate. That is the essence of Le Voyage à Nantes".

Nantes, a scattered monument
"In the absence of a great monument such as the Eiffel Tower or the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, we have a series of different, complementary
elements", emphasises Jean Blaise, director of Le Voyage à Nantes. "We must reveal and promote this scattered monument". In this way, Le Voyage
à Nantes must identify a long-term product, making it coherent and appealing, and promote it.
To do this, Le Voyage à Nantes is to organise an important event, from 15 June to the beginning of September 2012, during which art will sweep
across the entire city. "Along the whole of this sensitive, poetic path, the people of Nantes and visitors will see the city from different and new
perspectives. In fact, we wish to create a "ville inversée", an upside-down and inside-out Nantes, to reveal the city's audacity!" explains Jean Blaise.
