MARCH 2015
HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY!
NEWS
Dear Constituent,
First, I want wish a great, early St. Patrick’s Day to all the people of the Miramichi riding and
elsewhere, with Irish roots or not!
It was with pleasure that I received the 'Friend of the River Award' from the Northumberland
Salmon Protection Association (NSPA), on 17 February.
This prestigious award recognizes individuals and companies that have made significant and
long-standing contributions to the ongoing effort to conserve the Miramichi River’s iconic, yet
seriously threatened, wild Atlantic salmon population. It is with great humility that I accept this
honor.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your birthday wishes. It was a lot of fun
to read your messages.

Recently, our Government invited organizations across Canada to propose new projects that
will help end violence against women and girls.
The Government of Canada will be supporting projects selected through a new call for
proposals by Status of Women Canada entitled Working in Partnership to End Violence against
Women and Girls. These projects will help end violence against women and girls by fostering
partnerships within and among communities, and creating positive change that prevents
violence.
Applications for funding are accepted online. Applicants are invited to click on "Start Now" and
follow the instructions to proceed with an online application. The deadline for applications to be
submitted is noon (12:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time) on April 17, 2015.
Since 2007, the Government of Canada has provided more than $153 million through the
Women's Program at Status of Women Canada for community-based projects. Of this amount
$71 million has gone to projects that prevent violence against women and girls.
