FRENCH ALBACORE DATA RECOVERY

SUMMARY
The SCRS adopted in 2005 a general recommendation to initiate a “Data Recovery Plan”. The
Committee noted that this activity should be fully documented to be approved by the Scientific
Committee. In July 2009 Dr. Alain Fonteneau submitted to the Secretariat large files including
the historical information on French albacore data for the period of 1967 to 1993. The files
were received just one week before the albacore assessment and the Secretariat did not have
enough time to analyze all the information; this document presents a short summary of the data.
RÉSUMÉ
En 2005, le SCRS a adopté une recommandation générale en vue de lancer un « Plan de
récupération des données ». Le Comité a observé que cette activité devrait être complètement
documentée pour qu’elle soit acceptée par le Comité scientifique. En juillet 2009, Dr. Alain
Fonteneau a présenté au Secrétariat des fichiers de grande taille qui comprenaient les
informations historiques sur les données françaises du germon pour la période de 1967 à 1993.
Les fichiers ont été reçus à peine une semaine avant l’évaluation sur le germon et le Secrétariat
n’a pas disposé de suffisamment de temps pour analyser la totalité des informations ; ce
document présente toutefois un bref résumé des données.
RESUMEN
En 2005, el SCRS adoptó una recomendación general para iniciar un “Plan de recuperación
de datos”. El Comité indicó que está actividad debería ser plenamente documentada para que
fuera aprobada por el Comité Científico. En julio de 2009, el Dr. Alain Fonteneau presentó a
la Secretaría grandes archivos que incluían la información histórica sobre los datos franceses
de atún blanco para el periodo de 1967 a 1993. Los archivos se recibieron tan sólo una semana
antes de la evaluación de atún blanco y la Secretaría no dispuso de tiempo suficiente para
analizar toda la información, pero en este documento se facilita por lo menos un breve resumen
de los datos.

1. Summary of information received
The information received includes catch in number and weight, effort in various format, detailed spatial/time
strata and some socio-economic data. Additional work should be done to harmonize effort data and gear type.
The left table shows the number of albacore landed by year and the right figure gives the number of records.
Below figure show the catch distribution.
